Trapper/Breeder
I always have enjoyed the crafting and gathering system in FFXIV even though sometimes it can be infuriating. However I feel that since not as many people delve into this content it is more on the back burner. So I thought I'd leave my idea for a new Gathering Class here.
Trapper: A class that goes out and traps monsters to harvest their contents.
I.e being a way to gather specific materials you need instead of having to slaughter monsters on end in hopes to MAYBE get your drop. Obviously it would have to give you more materials than you'd get from just killing a monster otherwise it wouldn't make much sense, however you could select what to harvest from them, just like a regular gathering class.
Breeder: Instead of trapper you could go the route of a breeder, someone who rounds up monsters onto a ranch or farm and breeds monsters to harvest materials from.
Same gathering concept but different approach.

SE actually did plan to include a trapper/breeder class in the original version of FFXIV (1.0), called 'Shepherd' (or 'SHP' for short), and it even had a guildhall in Falcon's Nest in 1.0 and class icon resembling a set of antlers... alas it was never implemented, and considering even Falcon's Nest no longer has that guildhall, I am liable to regard this concept sadly as something SE has quietly abandoned. :(

Wow I never had a clue about all those unimplemented classes back from 1.X. Shepherd sounds like exactly what I'm talking about too. Maybe they can revamp it and bring it back at some point. I know a new DoL would be exciting.

I'd love something like this.
We have a DoL that gathers ore/rocks/gems, one that gathers plants/wood, and one that gathers from the water.
The only thing left at this point is a DoL that gathers monsters themselves somehow.
I'm not sure if I'd have it be for the purpose of ranching them for materials, though, since you can already acquire items from monsters by killing them. It would be extremely tough to balance how a SHP would be worth leveling without dramatically raising the number of monster-created mats every recipe requires.
I feel like there would have to be a new facet of the game that would need to revolve around using monsters to some end, but I'm not sure what that would be...
