You have to use yours, just lsam has to use the it's. Between the two of you there should be a 99%uptime on slashing debuff.
Echoing what other people have already said, both Shadow Fang and Yukikaze are hardwired into NIN and SAM rotations, so neither one really benefits by "skipping" it.
also, the slashing debuff and the dot are separate now, so either way, it doesnt matter if they use it or not. if they use the slashing debuff to time their abilities, then they simply need to adjust
In a way I can see why people might say something. If you filter detrimental status of others like many players do it becomes quite tricky to keep tabs on things like the slashing debufs.
And if you don't filter it can get quite tricky to work out which of those 5 shadowfangs is yours....
have suggested a few times in the past they should implement filters on the status effects. so you can filter which ones show and which don't.
so for example you could set the slashing debuf to be visible regardless of who put it up... but you wouldn't see 4-5 shadowfang dots on the boss at the same time.. same with other non stackable effects.
If I am the NIN, its a no brainier, use SF first and foremost, the sooner the DoT is on the enemy, the better.
If I am the SAM, I wouldn't go for Yukikaze, instead would focus on Jinpu or Shifu, as NIN can't avoid SF being their first thing to do.
