Is a fishing retainer worth it?

I currently have 2 x Dps retainers , 1 Botanist and 1 Miner. Thinking if I should switch my 1 Dps retainer to a fishing retainer. Would it be worth it in the long run?

I love my fishing retainer.

Many of the things that I want for various recipes do not have specific lures or anything that single out what I want and the bulk of what I catch isn't what I want or they are not HQ.

The fisher retainer allows you to single out what you want and they generally get a good few HQ. It is very nice.

Thanks for the info! Will change one of my lvl 60 Dps retainers into a fishing retainer. Just hope it doesn't take too long to lvl it

I have a fishing retainer, it is useful, but keep in mind that unlike the MIN/BTN retainers FSH retainers cannot bring back everything you can catch.

exactly, but I do find it useful if you have extra retainers... if you think a fishing retainer can bring you back Cobrafish and Black Magefish - better think again!

I've noticed the level 61-70 Fishing retainer returns alternate between leve fish and crafting fish from 61-70. The crafting fish it brings back cover all normally caught fish you need for crafting food. The food fish that retainers don't bring back are all spearfishing fish, and are usually easy to get in large amounts so it's no big deal. Honestly if you craft food at all, fishing retainers are a must-have. Nobody likes trying to catch 99 of a specific fish when your retainer can do it with 100% consistency and no effort on your part.

Can they actually target anything useful for Stormblood fish? Saying I'm underwhelmed by the choices right now would be an understatement.

I love retainers and for a few extra dollars you can get up to 8 retainers. If it's well geared and your doing CUL then yes. Unlock all fish will give you a better assortment, at least until they raise the cap again and add more available fish. I have 3 min 2 btn 1 FHS 2 DPS

Mogpoms. My fishing retainer was CREATED to get me mogpoms. They funded my house and supplied my alchemy habit.

During HW I would send my FSH retainer out to grab sharks for potions to supply our raid. It worked out well.
