Yeah, I was messing with the Riot Blade/Rage of Halone combo on Ifrit earlier and noticed my overall damage was way up prior to 1.20. Still a bit behind my Lancer, but it's a welcome change.
Part of the reason why it does so much damage, I think, is because of its position requirement (have to hit from the back to start). Because the Gladiator is normally fighting mobs looking at them from the front, you won't get to pull this off that often unless you're soloing (to open up a fight after getting TP from a previous fight) or you're trying to pull a mob away from one of your teammates.
Not only for pulling hate back, but in case you are in a group with too many GLAs, it slightly allows them to do some more dmg, while the main GLA tanks.
you can also stun the enemy with shield bash, run behind to do the ws and get back to the front. If done correctly, the enemy wont turn. I was doing this to batraal last night while helping some ls mates do quest for seals.
The riot/Rage combo is great for getting Hate back, the only time a GLA would ever be hitting from behind.
Not true, Pugilists taunt only holds enmity for a second or two then give it back to the tank. There are a lot of ways to get that combo off. Both solo, and in a group.
Well, I think it's generally agreed upon that it's not as basic as the Gladiator's main combo and as you guys have proven - it still is somewhat situational (need multiple GLAs, have to do it when the monster does a WS, have to combo with Shield Bash, etc) as opposed to the main combo where you can just fire it off at any time.
Good suggestions though - gonna try that Shield Bash combo.
