Most times is just keeping you hots up and reacting with big heals as needed. I've even heard some whm only heal when the target is in range of cure 2 for 100% lilly. Really, as long aa hp is half or more you should just be dpsing. WHM has more then enough panic heal buttons. Aoe your but off and try and keep assize at a boosted cool down from lillies.
Sorry for the double post but to add on. Don't do hots before pills or when they are closer to ending. HoTs pull hate right of the tank as they pull. Afree they got aggro your good. Use this time to put up aero 3 or aero 2 depending abs get them in range of cure 2 for a free lilly then regen and medica 2 then go ham.
If you've been playing WHM since before SB, your core healing style won't change. The most important thing I would impart to fellow White Mages is do not actively fish for lilies. There may be certain times where you would want to have a Lily ready for Divine Benison but otherwise its inefficient and wastes GCDs and MP. Don't hold back your ability usage for lilies either. They're a nice bonus to have but if you have to use an ability - use it. Don't shirk your healing responsibilities in hopes of getting that 10% or 20% cooldown reduction on your healing skills.
Thin Air and Pressence of Mind is a great wombo combo to maximize MP Savings, especially for those Holy spam moments. Assize now generates a LOT of hate due to the fact the White Mage gets both good healing and damage on everything it hits so be aware of that and maybe not be the best thing to open pulls with. Don't be afraid to use Divine Benison when you get the ability to do so. 30s cooldown isn't too long and it gives you a small window of breathing room from the oncoming damage. Just remember the shield is only 15s so keep the duration in mind before application.
Not enough people are talking about how absolutely OP Assize is now, or how the enmity generated from it can be a shock to tanks. Assize is probably the definition of "perfect" when it comes to oGCD abilities, and WHM should be glad it was massively buffed rather than nerfed.
My dungeons runs have seen squishier tanks, so much so that chain healing was needed. In one case constantly, using skills like Tetra and Bene on trash pulls. I've heard there were some changes to tank cool-downs, plus of course returning players may be out of practice and new players with jump potions could be a factor in some cases, but I haven't been going by the "at/over 50%" rule. More like 75%-80%. Unless after the first boss I am comfortable with how resilient the tank is.
This is actually part of the flaw of Assize, in that it's a swiss-army knife of abilities all at once. You have an aetherize mana regen, an indomitability AoE ability heal, and a Holy-esque AoE DPS component, but you don't always find yourself in a situation where you need all three of those things at once. Sometimes you just want that 10% mana return but the party is at full life, wasting the AoE heal component. Other times you may want that AoE heal to be ready for a big attack, and so you hold off on using it until needed, reducing the effectiveness of its mana return.
It finds its best utilization in AoE fields where all three features can trigger at once, but during boss fights and single-target phases of trials/raids you often find yourself wasting 2/3 of its potential for just one of its effects, which is a demerit compared to SCH's separated variants. So yes, Assize is great and everyone loves it, but that strength is also often wasted by having it be too good as a single package.
I'd say you never lose more than 1/3 of its over all potential. The damage and MP recovery are always welcome. If at full MP, I always toss out a Holy first. But the AoE heal can contribute to a lot of over healing. However, with stance dancing gone it's still an upgrade since with 3.0 assize it was impossible to get all three benefits since you had to choose between a big heal, or big damage.
