Before we start, I am not asking when to use diurnal and nocturnal, I am asking when is the right moment to use HoT, AoE HoT and shield, and AoE shield skills in endgame content. I am referring to raids, 4 man and 8 man runs.
EX. Keep regen on all the time during the fight/ use shield before a tank buster, etc.
All of SB content has a good bit of unavoidable AoE damage. Regen up at all times is pretty much the standard. Keeping a shield up on everyone is also a good idea if you can.
If you got the MP and you most likely will, then just keep both up as often as you can.
Generally shields are put up right before a big hit. So if a tank buster is coming you would cast a shield in your tank before they are hit. HoTs are good to keep up on your tank at all times, and AoE HoTs are most efficient when you know a lot of AoE is coming. HoTs can function as a nice safety net for DPS as they will be healed overtime and you won't have to spend MP or time on healing them unless they desperately need it.
As a side note: Shield before pulls = good. HoTs before pulls = bad.
