Like every other multiplayer game ever created? Instead of having to wait multiple minutes for the game to decide you don't exist anymore and log you out? Since this problem has existed since the games creation I can only surmise that it is some flaw in the games engine that they are unable to resolve.
If I remember right, they're still running on server based technology from 1.x, and haven't hardly upgraded since. They probably don't have the capability with how they manage their servers to program in something like this. You'd need a server that can manage the capability of saying "Alright, this person was just logged in, so we need to add a sort of "clause" that says they can pass everyone else for the next five minutes.
Which, doesn't sound complicated, but considering the tech they're probably running with I wouldn't guess they'd be capable or wanting to invest the time into it
My favorite was I had a que and then it finished and went to the loading screen. Then it kicked me before I could play and I had to wait in another que. Granted it was only about 400 people but still it made me frustratingly chuckle to myself.

The proper answer is to cap logins at 98% of capacity and use the 2% as buffer room to resolve this, while also not freeing a spot for 5 minutes after any "abnormal logout", for the most recent 1% of capacity of such abnormals.

Do you really want to explain to Raubahn why he was at position 1 and has now been bumped to 2?
The same thing can happen in WoW so not sure the "every other game" thing is accurate.
