Put MNK 4.0 suggestions here

I've seen some good suggestions for MNK in the other MNK thread. Could those that posted put them in here so maybe some devs might take notice.

This is also not a MNK complaints thread. Put those in other one and remember to like main post to gather attention.

The entire fist system needs to go back to the drawing board to be honest, Fists of Fire is going to be used 99% of the time and the Riddle abilities aren't going to change that. I doubt we're going to get anything like that before 5.0, so in the the meantime, here's my my suggestions to at least partially fix what's been announced:

- Fists of Fire and Fists of Wind are now automatically activated with no animation lock.
- Fists of Wind activates if you have no stacks of Greased Lightning and have not attacked an enemy within the last x seconds. The timing needs to be adjusted but I would say in the range of 5-10 seconds. This makes Fists of Wind your default stance when entering battle.
- Fists of Fire activates as soon as you get a Greased Lightning stack. Conceptually, you can say that the movement speed gets translated to attack speed. This means that Fists of Fire will be your default stance for ongoing battles.
- Fists of Earth is manually activated and prevents Fists of Wind and Fists of Fire from automatically activating while up.
- Wind Tackle should give a skill speed boost of 5% for around 10 seconds, allowing you to set up an opener much faster; currently there appears to be no incentive to use it over Fire Tackle.
- Fire Tackle gives a guaranteed crit, giving you a chance of opening a Chakra.
- Riddle of Earth refreshes Greased Lightning automatically instead of on receiving damage.
- Tornado Kick uses Chakra now. Using it consumes all current Chakra but it can be used with less than 5. Potency scales with how many Chakra are consumed, Forbidden Chakra should always be better at 5. Conceptually it remains the same: use it to consume a resource before downtime when you are expecting to refresh Chakra anyway.

I don't know if tossing random ideas will help.

As said, everything just needs to be reworked, it's all wrong. The only good think that comes to mind the new Brotherhood skill, provided it increases Monk's damages and also gives a 100% proc for chakras. Rng just messes up the job. Fix a chakra refresh limit (ie x amount of chakra per y seconds) if needed, but we need to know how many chakras we will gain, at least with a little marging.

The rest needs to be redone completely.

- Deep Meditation guarantees you one chakra every time you refresh Greased Lightning 3.
- Riddle of Earth refreshes Greased Lightning without taking damage first.
- Riddle of Fire grants Monk a red aura, increasing attack speed by 10% and damage dealt by 30%, as well as reducing TP consumption (much like Blood Weapon) instead of slowing you down.
- Reduce Perfect Balance's recast time to 90 seconds.
- Remove the 5% damage increase from Fists of Fire and place it into Twin Snakes instead, this way Fists of Fire will not be used 99.9% of the time and you won't lose damage by swapping Fists.
- When Greased Lightning 3 is maintained for an extended period of time, a proc is activated, granting you the use of Tornado Kick without the Greased Lightning penalty. When Tornado Kick is used without this proc it then consumes Greased Lightning 3 as usual. Much like how Foul works for Black Mages to an extent.

Copying what I wrote in the other monk thread, with a few edits. Like many others I think the major problem is that the new skills are mostly situational and don't change up our rotation or offer us any new damage abilities. But, assuming the new abilities cannot be completely revamped, my suggestions are as follows:

-Remove the slowdown from RoF and decrease the dmg buff to compensate for the loss of negative effect. Or why not give us a bad ass red or blue aura like in the trailer and simply speed us up? Going faster = more chance for chakra proc and it's not like TP is an issue anymore. I was really hoping we would have that kind of effect in-game seeing as it was so prominent in the trailer. Dragoon got an awesome looking effect with blood of the dragon, so why not monk this time? Allow us to temporarily ascend to GL4...Hell yeah.
-Remove frames from TFC to reduce clipping.
-Reduce cooldown for PB.
-Deep meditation grants chakra with each GL refresh. Take away the RNG please.
-Do something with steel peak. It's just button bloat without its stun. Remove one ilm punch and move the stun to steel peak. Having the stun as part of a combo in one ilm punch renders it practically useless. Or remove steel peak altogether and undo the GCD nerfs or give us slight GCD buffs to make up the lost potency.
-Increase the dmg on TK and give it a % hp absorb effect similar to mercy stroke.
-Increase the dmg buff for brotherhood and have it apply to you as well. Also include a chance to gain chakra from every GCD, not just weapon skills.
-Each shoulder tackle should be associated with a solid dps gain and/or realistic utility or nobody is going to use it. For example, add a short burning dot to fire tackle, a short sks buff or global cooldown reduction to wind tackle, and a backstep + dmg to earth tackle similar to Yaten for sam.


And for the future, since SE seems hell bent on keeping our stances...
-Each fist stance should be default 5% dps increase and should only modify certain skills. That way monk can switch stances based on which skill set or utility they want to use without worrying about a dps loss. SE can start with modifying the now pointless steel peak to add utility that changes with stance.

One ilm punch should stun the stun resisted mob and has dot effect like ToD with a duration of 60 sec instead of stun (Bruce Lee reference) to justify the big TP cost. Gain 1 chakra stack.

Tornado kick becomes activable by 30% after a weaponskill crits. It should not consume GL. 10 sec cooldown will become reasonable. 150 potency. Gain 1 chakra stack after activation.

Riddle of Fire should gain you flame aura visual effect and 30% damage bonus for 20 second without 15% slow.

Riddle of Earth should gain you earth aura visual effect and reduce 10% damage taken (that is stackable on top of fist of earth for total 20%) for 20 second.

Riddle of wind should gain you wind aura visual effect and reset shoulder tackle cd and reduce the cd to 1 second and effect wore off after executing shoulder tackle 2 times. So that you have time to kill trash mob/add and tackle back to the boss.

Brotherhood should increase dmg for caster and pet as well.

If you use Meditation out-of-combat it should give you max stacks of Chakra. It's kinda silly to have so much busy work between every pull in a dungeon... spam up chakra stacks, RoE to keep up GL, form shift...

I'm also not really sure what the point is of having a short timer on GL. It gets refreshed with any 1-2-3 combo, so it's not like you can not refresh it. It just makes it annoying during jump phases and between pulls. I'd rather they just make the timer 30 seconds and doing something interesting with RoE.

Speaking of timers, I don't think there's much point of them on forms either. All it does it potentially make things awkward pre-pull, because it's not possible for a form to time out during combat if you're doing combos.

And like everyone else has said, Tornado Kick needs a rework.

Pontency increases by 400% for each weaponskill.
Tornado Kick doesn't remove GL3 but give you GL3 if you dont have it.
Brotherhood increases party damage by 1500% and it applies to Monk.
Remove every DPS in game but Monk, just Monk will be available in FFXIV like DPS.

At present design, RoE cannot keep up GL unless you get hit. It will be useless between pulls, and, if current fight design is any indicator, about 90% of all long fights.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Meditation buffed out of combat or—my preference—stacks to be automatically accumulated every couple seconds when out of combat.

The only style of GL maintenance was to end with a Demolish as to effectively extend the duration by an additional 1.5 seconds, and always chain pull. The delay on GL application was removed in HW by applying GL at the start of the animation instead, costing .7 to 1.5 seconds of duration. In exchange, Form Shift allowed one to end with Coeurl and cycle back to it, effectively gaining 2 GCDs of duration. These are still core concepts to the job, and I'd rather not see them removed, personally.

It's simply a 10s combo duration, same as any other. Monk alone can advance their combos without having to actually hit an enemy. But, naturally they won't time out as long as you exchange it more often that every 10s. Why would be the case for when it exceeds 10 seconds, though, e.g. during pre-pull? Forms and Form Shift are a far cry from Machinist Ammunition or tank stances...
