DEV REQUEST - Allow us to reskin our companions.

Just what it says in the title. I propose allowing us to reskin over our companion chocobo with any mount we own.


For this to work some of the companion skills like say Chocobo Kick would have to be renamed to say, Kick and so on. Also barding of course would be disabled on other skins as refitting all those bardings would be to much trouble. Doing so would keep the chocobo "special" also as they would be the only ones with barding.


On the positive side most mount have in game monster counterparts so little to no new battle animations would be needed.


I just think it would be fun for a Monk to have a loyal Coeurl follow, or a WoL with battle hardened Fat Chocobo, or what we all really want, a Warbear fighting by the side of a Warrior.


With SB and leveling around the corner we will see our companions more and more. I just figure since it seems the companion system isn't going to be added too anytime soon, this cosmetic fix would be nice.

I like the idea, though it would only be reasonable that they slowly include the different skins a few at a time. While many wouldn't require extra animations, there's a lot that would. Still, it would certainly allow us to get more use out of our unlocked mounts, since I know that at the very least I only use maybe three or four out of the 20 mounts I have.....

I want chocobo's to stay chocobo's. They are our chocobro's.

Well like I said most of the mounts have attack animations already. Lion is a chimera reskin already, the reaper already does stuff. Hell even the Dandelion Puff "wiggles" which could stand in for the attack animations.

But yeah you get what I'm saying. Would make mounts more fun I think if for no other reasons then for screencaps of us fighting alongside some of our goofier mounts.

I'm divided on this actually. If only for roleplaying reason. My character (if you can't guess from the avatar), isn't from a place where chocobos are common. She much rather have her warsteed fight alongside her.

I absolutely understand and respect that point of view. If you note my OP you'll see for both practical programing as well for "special chocobo" reasons I suggest barding remains chocobo only. I understand chocobos are special to the franchise and I would never suggest they replace the companion. But by that same token some may prefer more options. And there really isn't anything wrong with giving everyone options based on their own personal tastes now is there?

I would rather that time/effort be spent on making our chocobo companions better instead. Like giving them more skills to learn and such, maybe even non-combat ones.

What sort of improvements specifically? Maybe this could be a catch-all thread to improve the system as a whole.
