Knowing SE, they'd add some complex or grindy breeding game on top to unlock the respective areas for the game, gave you ten different abilities to gauge and handle the depth when poking and making the controls clunky >_>

In a nutshell, you would ride around on your chocobo and feed it a gyshal green and it would 'dig' for you and you'd have to follow the prompts to find the spot where something was hidden.
Basically its "x" marks the spot, kind of treasure hunt.
