How is SAM not going to be bonkers OP in non raid content?

We have all seen SAM's crazy potency attacks by now. He is the old MNK now on steroids as the "selfish dsp". This crazy damage is presumably to balance their desirability in raid content as they bring minimal raid utility.

In non raid content obviously raid utility is irrelevant so isn't this monster dps class going to be king?

thing is with how dps is and cross skills are reworked the little utility of monk is covered
They can do goad and feint and feint doesnt have the immunity on target anymore so both of the dps can us it to mitigate damages on tank
so SAM is actually even better than monk was back then damage wise and utility wise.

This has a pretty good breakdown. Sam won't be light years ahead, maybe 10~15% above drg/mnk.

I've been waiting for a melee class that actually looks fun to play in this game...I think Samurai is finally it (I like swords which helps...)! The vast majority of content I do is world content...with a splash of dungeons when necessary for the story and 24-mans so high dps/low group (expected) utility is perfect :D I will be leveling a bard to 70 first to see what it is like, however.

If SAM become "mandatory" at some point will be nerfed, 10%-15% is way too much, specialy for non raid content.

Eh there's a lot of things that are "mandatory" that don't see the nerf bat. Plus you're hard pressed to balance the game around raids and dungeon content and I think SE knows that. Just look at Ninja, nobody is super pleased to get them in a dungeon now but they're always welcome in a raid setting.

Some of the mandatory stuff was there because certain classes where not that good, but if you flat out "remove" a slot because a SAM is the best option (and find one it's not going to be hard) is a very bad thing, also his natural high potency will be stronger with raid buff (perhaps meta will be build around to buffing him for insane damage).

Anyway, with SB we are going to experiment a lot of tuning for all classes.

Probably not, because it is not far enough ahead to warrant the lack of synergy.

Realistically, probably 5-10% ahead in actual application.

Very true! Launch is going to be a bunch of silly gooses jumping ship on their classes and then getting really upset when things shift in 4.1.
