Website and The Event Search

I'm starting to get into using the website little bit more and getting into checking stuff out in the forums and the blogs people post. I was checking out the event search which I'm guessing is used for player made events. My question is, is this one of those tools that's just collecting dust? I mean I see people and FCs hosting events all the time and what not but I never mess around on the website enough to see stuff posted or really looking for such stuff. Had it search for like 1-2 weeks ahead and nothing popped up which was set for Balmung.
