Need or Greed? A Question of Etiquette.

So I recently asked my FC what the etiquette on gear rolling was because I felt like some of the players I encountered in DF roll Need on gear simply because they can. The general consensus among my FC mates was that the decent thing to do is to only roll Need for glamour or upgrade purposes or for unique items (minions, TT cards, etc), which is the philosophy I adhere to. I then became curious what the community at large thinks are acceptable reasons to roll Need.

So my question: Why do you roll Need?

Grand Company seals. Unless someone asks for specific role loots then I pass.

Grand Companty Seals. I need them, so I need on loot to get them.

I need GC seals, and if there's no new player or they're over-leveled for the encounter then I definitely will roll Need.

I roll need if I want an item for upgrade, glamour, desynth or GC-seals - I'm willing to pass on the later two if someone speaks up and asks for that item for glamour-reason and depending on how bad I want a certain glamour-piece I'm also willing to greed that out in case someone speaks up about it (as in: a dps asking for a tank-piece that I would like aswell)

As long as no one speaks up in a polite manner, I will roll need on what I can - because GC-seals and desnyth are indeed needs of mine. You can tell me ofc that there are other ways to get those, but the same can be said about upgrade-items.
So the only scenario in which the actual item really matters is glamour - and in that case I can only say: Play the class you want that item for or at least ask politely.

i roll Need on everything i want to acually wear or use for glamour, because i actually need the gear :O
i roll Greed on everything i want to sell for Company Seals or Gil, because i am just greedy then.

If I need the gear, be it to wear/desynth/glamour/gc seals I will need on it. If none of the above I will greed on it.

If someone needs the gear to wear and I don't then I will pass.

I roll need if another rolls need. I roll greed otherwise.

If I have a specific use for it in mind, then I Need. If I have a general purpose use for it, then I greed. If I know someone else that could use it but can't roll Need, then I Pass.

"I could use this for seals" is general purpose. "I need seals to get 'x' to do 'y' which is my purpose here" is specific.

To summarize, if I'm being greedy, then I Greed. If I'm being needy, then I Need.

I apologize if this is a frequently asked question, I was genuinely curious what the consensus on this was since I just returned to the game and don't remember a whole lot. I started this thread solely out of curiosity, not attempting to cultivate change or complain.
