What is the story behind your character's name?

Sorry if this has already been asked before, but I wonder what your stories are. Those who omitted the naming convention lore-wise - how come you did that?

I can start by saying that my name is Coconut Snowball at the moment because a) I promised my friend I would change to a food name if he did and b) I find my character to be nice and sweet so it kind of fits his looks and colour palette

I went with Oraina simply because it was my mage's name in WoW and I liked the name. Fhey was a result of hitting random until I could find something that wasn't jibberish. Sun seekers have a weird naming system.

Also I have found 3 sisters and 2 brothers. (all of them cool people)

Kye was the name of my character in Final Fantasy XI. It's a name that I've come to adopt even in the real world, as my friends who play the game typically address me as "Kye" instead to my birth name.

Lachesis was chosen because of my love for Greek mythology. Lachesis is one of the Three Fates who determines how long a person's life is to be. I thought this was appropriate as I typically play healers. :)

Dynamo is the stage name of a modern popular magician, and Malevolti is the last name of an 18th century fencing master. A magic fencer.

Paired up my favorite syllables in accordance with Dunesfolk naming convention.

I like the name Lulu. When I made my character, I really wanted Lulu in it, but I wanted to be kind of lore friendly as I am a roleplayer. It's not quite as the name right now is AAB AA instead of ABB AB or AAB AB, but I'm happy with it. I worked it into my character's backstory in the end, and am happy with it. :)

I thought my Miq looked like Adam Ant. So, I thought "Dirk" was a good name, but "WearsWhiteSox" was a bad last name. (Album Title) So, I took Gently from the Douglas Adams book.

Abandoned Homestuck OC fanfiction with the name itself coming from one of those name generator websites. I don't want to bring back those repressed memories. I was a young man at the time. ;-;

Also I didn't care much for lore names since I just wanted to use something else.

I sometimes wish I went with a lore accurate name, but now everyone knows me as Mandar, so it seems silly to change it. Anyway, there is a story behind it:

Mandar: When my siblings were little, they couldn't pronounce my full name, usually manda or mander or some variation. In highschool, there was this one episode of That 70's Show we all watched together, I don't remember it well, but it had something to do with Dungeons & Dragons (which I don't play, but my family knew I was into nerdy shite like Lord of the Rings, etc). All I remember is this one quote, "I'll let you be Mandar, the half-elf!" And my family slowly turning to look at me like they all had a sudden epiphany. I've been "Mandar" ever since, LOL.

Magoo: couldn't think of my own last name, so I stole the one my sister used. Plus I thought it sounded cute (that alliteration, <3 ).
