It's still fending accessories. You can meld them with strength if you want. Turn your dps stance on. (Deliverance or sword oath or keep Darkside up without grit.)
The stat weight for both is .45 now. But you can't meld vit materia to vit accessories. That's why you'll see tank mains melding str to their vit accessories.
In general DPS maximisation for tanks is the easiest of all roles. Simply:
> Take highest available weapon damage
> Avoid anything with Parry
> Meld STR if your accessory is VIT, meld VIT if your accessory is STR
> Meld until accuracy cap
> Meld until ~550 skillspeed for warriors
You only need to care about stat weights after that. Parry is so useless and is found on so much tank gear that by simply taking it out of the equation you're pretty much left with only one or two options. This won't change in Stormblood as long as Parry still exists.
This is also the best gear even if you care about tanking, as this kind of setup generates maximum aggro. There is no viable 'defensive gear' solution right now as resistances and parry don't apply effectively to all attacks.
For WARs, what if your accesory could take crit meld as well. Is it still more dps to meld str over crit?
All Alex gear has 1 slot, unless you are referring to crafted then you can only meld str once then you follow up with what ever for penta melding
