An inquiry
As I read fansites and now the official forums I have noticed a strange commonality between the fans on each of the sites.
The population of the Final Fantasy franchise is all about removing things. If you look on the first page of this sub-forum I am sure you can find a dozen(probably many more) posts asking to remove stuff.
Curious if anyone noticed it? I get the impression the thought process goes something like this, "I don't like this, no one should like this, I want to it removed".
Anyone else notice this? :)
P.S. It also can be applied to adding things, as there seems to be a very obstinate attitude towards the inclusion of new ideas(or anything that doesn't stem directly from FFXI).

It's a phenomenon that's unique to FF and it blows my mind. Extra things in your game is not bad, guys.

Oh, you're absolutely wrong.
People only want to remove everything that's different in FFXIV in comparison to FFXI ;P

I think the attitude can be summed up in the following phrase, People are afraid of change. Ideas and concepts different from what they consider the norm scare the living heck out of some. This sentiment is echoed from died in the wool xi vets as well as from those who are from what would be considered "Modern mmo's". The thing is as some one who has been around the block a couple times when it comes to these games is there is a glorious middle ground to be found between the two some are just to preoccupied by how things should be to see how it could be.

Remove unfounded and unsupported ideas. Did you stop to collect data on what they were asking to remove? Surplus is something I'm pretty sure is popular among EVERYONE for removal, is it not? As is the removal of Accessory limits? Or the removal of the stupid "If you try to use an item in XI and get paralyzed, you lose the item" penalty.
Show me some evidence they want actual useful features removed before you start trying to start something.
Sure, there's someone with a remove Surnames thing, but it's a pretty silly topic, and most of us like the last name bits. Not all of us wanna be Cher. A lot of traditional MMOs did the 1 name thing. It didn't really take off till what? Guild Wars? You also have to leave room for satirical posts too.
