Suggested Feature: Glamour Log (how to help devs make it work)

Okay, so according to reddit this has been talked to death and isn't happening. Yoshi P said it's not a priority already for 4.0. But I really feel a lot of people want this. Glamour is not important to everyone, but to those who it is important to - we really, really need this.

There are lots of ways to implement this. I know some people might think it insane to do because of the amount of gear, plus dyes. I will touch on my ideas briefly, then need to break them up into separate posts because of the character limit.

A) The log is, like other logs, a finite thing
B) The gear is limited to pieces which are Unique/Untradeable
C) The gear is consumed once logged
D) Belts, which are invisible on character models, should not be included
E) Jewelry is included, as it can be viewed
F) Relic/Zodiac/Anima weapons cannot be logged
G) Glamouring would take place from the log and not an item in your inventory
H) Glamour prisms are stored in the log just like crystals

A) The log is, like other logs, a finite thing. It has the gear pre-selected that you can add to it so you can collect it like you do crafting or fishing. You can "Try On" from the log. It's basically a wearable item repository. Maybe even have it tell you the location of the item. Especially as patches change and it gets harder to figure out where they stuck old gear...

B) The gear is limited to pieces which are Unique/Untradeable. This would limit the size of the log and also restrict its use to pieces that take extra effort to recover, ie. tome pieces or dungeon / raid drops.

C) The gear is consumed once logged. This is optional, but I feel makes sense in a way. The most you lose is the ability to desynth and/or turn in for GC seals. Any piece that you plan to do either of those two things with is obviously not so rare or desirable as a glamour, so consuming the piece should not really impact you.

D) Belts, which are invisible on character models, should not be included. Obviously.

E) Jewelry is included, as they can be viewed. Good rule of thumb is if it has an "Emperor's New" variant, it goes in the log.

F) Relic/Zodiac/Anima weapons (and whatever the SB variant is) and their stages cannot be "consumed" and put into the log. However, available replicas once that step is completed can.

G) Glamouring would take place from the log and not an item in your inventory. You would still use a prism as a catalyst.

H) Glamour prisms are stored in the log just like crystals. They can be sold on the MB from the log (like crystals) and added from the MB directly to the log (like crystals). They are somewhere between an item and a currency.

Dyes are the tricky part. They would have to be applied directly to the glamour in the log. This would mean that all subsequent uses of that glamour reflect that dye. This is similar to the current system where you dye one piece, then glamour it over and over and do not need to use dyes again.

This would mean from a coding perspective that the game no longer has a yes/no checkbox on "do you have this piece" - it now has a yes/no checkbox and a color.

The other option is dyes are made part of the glamour log and become currency/items as well. This would be a PROBLEM however as you would need to use a prism & a dye every time you glamour. Dye prices would go up, especially on rare dyes. Better to just apply the dye once to the glamour log item and have it stick.

Also because dye is used on furniture, having it join the log would be a problem. So if anyone has ideas on dyes I would appreciate it.

I stand firm on no destruction of gear because and only because of two reasons; redundancy aka higher workload for developers and more importantly, restrictions for players.

BiS change because you got a different loot but your upgraded gear already exploded last night? Rip or repurchase and re-upgrade the gear again. Or wait for the weekly tome cap to be removed so it doesn't hinder your gearing progression.

Sure, it will be nice if the developer team filter the gears into two different group so upgradeable gear get added into the log automatically without exploding, but that will still be additional work no matter how you slice the pie, regardless big or small (kinda like the effect we get with the additional usage of the gear eh?).

If additional resources is such a big issue, might as well just setup the system so that we have to pay a fee of 5,000 gil everytime we add a single piece of gear into the glamour log as a bomb-diffusion fee. I'm pretty such we don't have enough gil sink in game anyway. /s

By the way, you can edit your post to bypass the limit. For the dyes part it's unlikely to happen as we've seen what happen to armorie. Of course I'd prefer to have the dye save if possible, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for it.

As I said, the gear destruction is optional. I don't see it as a must at all, and you bring up valid points why it would be a poor mechanic.

Hence my asking for opinions. :-)

I think the biggest issue would be recording duplicate gear such as the non-dyeable (first stage) of raid / tome gear and the dyeable (second stage) of said gear. That would also add to the list... so I'm not sure how to get around that one.

Also, a free to add glamour gear would make sense as opposed to it being destroyed. Not a big fee, mind you, something manageable. I would much rather that than losing the gear, good suggestion!
