Stacking gear sets would be grand.

I know I've mentioned this in other threads. I'm pretty sure I haven't made a thread dedicated to the topic, so here it is.

I think it would be grand if we could stack specific gear sets (augmented tome gear, raid gear, dungeon gear, etc), and consolidate all the pieces into one inventory slot. The "stacked" set could then be used for easy glamour reference. This would be an added convenience for those players that enjoy glamouring, and those that go so far as to collect an entire set. I suppose the suggestion could work for partial sets, but I assume limiting it to completed sets would be somewhat easier to implement. Perhaps they could implement a special "set mannequin" item to combine with the complete set, or a "jewelry box" for accessory sets (just an idea).

Also on a related note, I also think it would be grand if we had an sort option to "Sort by Set," as well as an option to "Search by Set." the isearch functionality is nice, but it doesn't have an option to sort for a set specifically.

Interesting idea. My concern would be the amount of data that represents. Basically you'd be turning each inventory slot, armory chest slot, and retainer slot into an infinitely-expanding array of items. The database implications for such a change are terrifying.

As for glamour, yeah we need a better solution. The one we have now sucks. I'd like a glamour collection where I can maintain a list of all glamour I've collected and then pick and choose from that. WoW does this quite well right now, and other MMOs currently have much better systems for it than we do.

A simple version that wouldn't involve that problem of lots of items in a slot would be:

Trade (existing) items A, B, C, D, and E for (new) item F. Now you can store item F in a single slot, since it's a different, single item. If you later want the pieces back, there would be a corresponding trade you can do to trade item F for items A, B, C, D, and E. That type of system would involve adding a new item for each set, and an interface for trading to and from those set items, but it wouldn't require changes in the inventory system.

Ideally, you'd be able to glamour appearances using either the original separate pieces, or the set box itself. But even if they left that part out (or left it to be implemented later), and you needed to unpack the set into its pieces in order to glamour them, and then pack them back up afterward, it would still help the inventory bloat issue, since we wouldn't have to store all the separate pieces the rest of the time.

(Downside to this system is you'd lose any customization, like materia or dye added. But for most gear being stored for glamour purposes, dye wouldn't matter much and materia wouldn't matter at all. I'd be willing to re-dye an item each time I glamour it in order to be able to store sets in a fifth the space.)

That could work. My thing was that the amount of data one item represents multiplied over several times would be too much. But if it's just storing the item ID (similar to the way the armoire works) then that'd probably be ok.

I don't see a "set box" item as taking up any more data spacee than a piece of equipment already does. Most gear sets are made up up of about five/six pieces (head, body, hands, waist, legs, feet, and assuming a set does not include accessories). In comparison, at the very least, each equipment piece has data for up to five materia slots. That's not including all the other data included with a specific piece of equipment (color, condition, spiritbond, signature, quality, collectible, etc).

I'd imagine adding a piece of gear to a "set" would be similar to melding materia to an open equipment slot. I suppose the main difference would be adding a specific item requirement, to a specific slot, depending on the specif set. In any case, recording a piece of gear to the "set box" would be similar to adding to the armiore. However, the data would limited to the instance of the inventory item, as opposed to being part of the base character data in the armoire.

They also could turn this idea into an extension of the existing glamour functionality. Imagine that instead of a "set box" item, you have a special "set prism" item. The player would have the ability to record set pieces to the "sets prism" using the same glamour prism that would be used in normal glamouring (basically glamouring to the "set prism" instead of to another piece of equipment. No special trade NPC required.

Extending on that idea, they could also have a special "outfit prism" that would let they player glamour a custom outfit to the special prism. The player could then use the outfit prism as the glamour reference, and glamour an entire outfit in one go (with the necessary amount of prisms, of course). Better yet, give us an additional slot in the armory chest for outfit prisms, so the player has the option to equip and save their favorite outfits, as opposed to glamouring each piece individually.

Just a few ideas. Hopefully there's some merit in there somewhere.
