Some thoughts on class/job balance after EU Fanfest

Tanks - drk, pld, war
Healers - ast, whm, sch
Ranged physical damaging dps - brd, mch, RDM
Melee dps - monk, ninja, dragoon, SAM
Caster dps - smn, blm, RDM

The class counts seem more even to me now. We knew for a while we were getting Red Mage as a dps class. The only other safe option would be adding a SAM as dps too for now.

If they added another tank then people would whine "what about another healer". If they added another healer then people would whine "what about another tank".
My thoughts are that maybe next time around we will get a new healer/tank and maybe a new race (due to character restriction I'll make another post about this).

You've added RDM twice. As its a Caster DPS, and BLM and SMN also work at ranged, I'm not sure why you're including it with BRD/MCH and not those two.

My thoughts are that maybe next time around we will get a new healer/tank and maybe a new race. I personally am very happy with our current race choices as they are also very balanced.

Roe: tall, bulky, strong
Elezen: tall and lithe
Hyur: average humanoid
Lala: small and cute
Au ra: average height but scaled and tailed
Miqote: average height but ears and tail

I'm honestly not sure what other race could be added to make this more balanced than it already is (opinions welcomed). Viera seems to be on the mouths of many but we already have an "eared" race and two very tall races.

While I think everyone is entitled to their opinion I can't believe people are already saying that they are dissapointed with Stormblood. I can't wait for the expansion!!

The Red mage may also be using a Rapier to inflict physical damage. It fits into both slots in my opinion.

We don't know if it's inflicting physical damage though. It could very well be magical damage. That sword sure looked like it was glowing when those strikes were delivered. I think it should stick to Caster DPS, not get mixed in with BRD/MCH.

And you can also see the RDM casting a spell right before those strikes hit.

On another note RDM will be using BLM /SMN gear, so it might be unlikely that it will be physical. We will find out in a few months I guess.

As you said, we don't know, I know I'm hoping (oh so hoping) for a combo of physical/magic so I'm slotting it this way for now. :) If we learn down the road that it's purely magic damage I'd be down with that too. It's still seems well balanced to me.

Well, it's a pure ranged class, so I'm leaning magical for the rapier strikes.

F: Will Red Mage’s auto attack be melee or ranged?
Y: It is a range job, so we want to balance it out in a way that it won’t lack in that department. That is all I can say for now. I don’t want to say anything specific before we get the confidence that that is it for the jobs.

RDM is going to fill the Caster role (as already confirmed), it's not that complicated. SE have set enough precedent on their game design where they try to keep things as simple as possible.
