Is it going to storm today?

I've been wondering about it for the longest time, mostly because I don't really pay much attention to lore that's not directly in the MSQ, but how come some fairly common weather patterns are only seen in certain areas? Thunder and thunderstorms are a perfect example, they only happen in South Shroud. Why? Is something there? Ramuh originates from East Shroud, I never see it storm there. It monsoons all the time in East Thanalan, still no lightning though. Heat waves are another one, all of Thanalan is desert plains, but you only see that in Southern Thanalan. And I believe you only see windy weather in West La Noscea, despite high winds being possible anywhere from a meteorological standpoint. Correct me if I'm wrong on that though.

3 years of playing and I never really cared enough to ask until it bugged me enough sitting in Quarrymill watching a thunderstorm, waiting for a Palace queue.

Just like in real life, different places in Eorzea has different weatherphenomena. Doubt it to be more special than that. The recent calamity did shake it up a bit with coerthas getting colder and Eastern Thanalan getting greener, but again, i doubt there to be super magical reasons for that.

All the thunder in South shroud could just be the warm air of Thanalan mixing with the cold winds of Coerthas. The sudden lack of trees would allow the colder winds to pass through the Black Shroud and down into Thanalan. And the green flora in East Thanalan would be explained by the beforementioned colder winds gong south creating monsoons and a more tepid and bearable environment for plantlife.
The wind on La noscea is due to it being an island in the ocean. Nothing new here. Coastlines are often struck by stronger winds. High winds are possible everywhere, but are much more common on flat areas, like the ocean.

The only weather we cant really explain with real science is the made up ones. Wind aspected aether-storms in Sea of Clouds come to mind, but even that could be explained through the absolutely enormous amount of wind crystal that keep the islands afloat.

On a more functional and gameplay level, this is a major aspect of fishing. Lots of rare fish are weather dependant. At the same time, theres the Odin weather in the shroud and fate specific weather for Azys Lla and the Forelands off the top of my head.
Also, I'm a bit confused to the thunder weather comment, since thunder appears in other zones too. It's not exclusive to the south shroud.
