FFXIV and the completionist.

Does anyone else have this problem? I don't mean to start a flame war by this, I am just genuinely curious if people have an innate desire to fully complete something in any given game. I don't mean 'I'm going to get every single achievement in the game ever.' Though that does certainly fall under this category. I mean more along the lines of seeing something that you perceive at the time to be obtainable, and pursue it. Example: Getting every mount from every trial that offers one, or raising 200 people outside of parties just to get the title.

The problem is, it's becoming harder and harder to reach this desire. A few months after Anima weapons came live, I resolved to get them all, and was doing quite well. I made all 13 relics to state two in a relatively short time...then got stonewalled by Stage three. Shortly after (For other reasons than not getting Stage 3), I needed to step away from FFXIV for a while, the game was just rubbing me the wrong way.

I've been back for two or so months now, but now only have found the matters worse. For example, to get to Hyperconductive, you have two options: 1) Wait a week to do a quest that involves queuing up for three outdated, and seldom ran raids (Last wait time was 45 minutes), or 2) Spend 1800 lore to get one oil, when that lore is currently needed to obtain gear for all my jobs. It's a let down...especially considering working this hard for something so next to worthless now. (Clearly there are better weapons than relics already) Why make something so next to worthless, so hard to obtain still? I currently have enough to make Five Relics state 3.

I mean...you can even make an argument saying that insane completionists like me are poster children for MMO gaming, we fill the pockets of MMOs, because we are paying to do all of their content. Of course make it hard to get..that's what brings in the money...but too hard, and just just destroyed that desire.

The other argument is going to be to wait a while, and eventually obtaining Animas will be as trivial as obtaining Zetas. (I obtained all 13 Zetas in about 2-3 months...with an 8 hour/5 day a week job..I'm not a fat kid in a basement) I suppose I have no way to combat this argument, but it would be nice if obtaining all these relics was actually feasible, while they can still be used.

I'm just curious is all, is anyone else having issues with their completionist desires in this game? Or is it just me?

I can relate to your situation a little bit as I also want to get as many achievements as possible. However, I'm in no rush to gather/beat/do everything. If I find something boring or annoying I'll just resume the activity later since there are so many other activities in-game I can do instead(for achievements or just to unwind).

For me it's really not a problem I just LOVE the GRIND for completing these achievements as fast as possible just feels so satisfying even though alot of them doesn't give any special rewards or achievement titles but there are many ways out there to grind for everything you just gotta know where to look at.

Well you start by saying "problem". I don't think wanting to do achieve something in a game is a problem as long as there is will and of course time.
I for one, hate grinding in all of its forms. I hate when i have to do the same damn thing over and over again and not be a challenge for me (for example hard primals back in 2.1 for zenith). Make that double when that thing is boring or i don't get a good reward. Well the terms "boring" and "reward" are debatable as what seems boring to me might be fun for someone else.
For example, one of my friends wants to get every single minion in the game and for god's sake wants to get every possible type of gear for his dragoon. I call him crazy, but i don't blame him at all. I would still call you crazy if you tell me that i got all zetas but its a personal decision after all and as long as it is fun for you then im just more than fine with that. Like it or not, ffxiv currently has MANY things to do and while you are saying that i can't do all of them, others say that im becoming bored and there's nothing to do in this game just a few weeks after new stuff gets introduced. Think about it.
Overall, i agree with you that the game right now is not favorable for completionists as doing something to its extreme can take insane amounts of gameplay aka time and of course real money something most just don't prefer...

Yea, but do you still love it knowing that at minimum, it will take you slightly over a year to finish all hyperconductive weapons?(13 weapons x 5 oils = 65 weeks) Even with saying you buy an oil once every 3 days, it brings you down to 3 oils a week (1 for weekly, two for 3,600 lore) Which brings it down to maybe just under a year? I LOVE the grind too...but being limited by THIS MUCH is insane. Gives me a bad taste in my mouth.

I also get the idea that while I am saying 'there is too much to do and not enough time' others are saying 'I'm bored, more content please.' And that SE needs to please both...I just with they WOULD please both.

Yes I would still love grinding it no matter how hard it is, just a FYI I have all 13 hyperconductive which I finished about 2 months ago, but it's really up to you whether how fast you want it done I usually do all my daily roulettes and run as much aetherochemical research facility as much as i can for 150 lores per run and alot of hunts, with that being said as a sorta completionist I do have all jobs at 60 and play all jobs so the queue times are quick as a tank and now I think the i240 relic step is the hardest right now which i'm still working on with 80 crystal sands (easy step) and 80 Umbrites (hard step, 300 lores per umbrite) atm and I'm at 3/13 and 3/13 i260 sharpened.

I don't know. I guess I love the grinding, but I also want it done in a timely manner. Earning at most 3/week with weekly raids and lore tomes (Figuring in my 8/hour a day job) just seems slow as fuck. It's got me a bit depressed...but I imagine this is just me, as others are saying it sucks, but its doable.
