Keyboard set like FFXI

Ok, so since i started playing this game almost a year ago i have had my movement controls set like FFXI (10-key walking, directional arrows to turn screen, legacy controls) pretty much as close as you can get. I seem to do pretty well, but i've always had a feeling that it might be holding me back in some way. Does anyone else do this? I rarely use the mouse for anything outside of clicking on a pomander or crafting. I even tab target with tab and zero (though i do use a battle target macro to assure i get to the primary target asap). What do the best players do? Curious.

Wow i'm fascinated - haven't played 11 in a super minute, but sounds a bit better than how I do. I use WASD and legacy - i'm constantly clicking on the ground to adjust camera minutiae style

Use a controller ;)

I use the Standard type because way back when, I used to play BRD and facing away from the target meant dropping auto attacks. I just keep to using WSAD since I'm used to it from playing other PC games and have a mouse with thumb buttons 'cause of TERA. It took a while getting used to Standard, but now I feel it's a little better than Legacy for no real reason now (since you keep auto attacks while facing away now). I've never really run into an instance where you needed quite that much access to directions to dodge something.

^lol Pretty much this for myself^. One of the few MMOs that has intergrated a controller so well. especially if your on PS4, you can actually plug-in a USB KB and mouse to play like the PC version lol (Very well done devs)

I've done this ever since 1.0 but ARR pretty much ruined the keybinds since 1.0 had arrow keys as menu keys regardless of your keybinds so I had arrow keys and shift+arrow keys on camera movement. This enabled me to move the camera with shift+arrow even if there was a menu open. This wasn't possible with ARR so I had to bind the menu keys to WASD. I pretty much only use AoE skills on mouse since I'm too lazy to make those macros with <t> that you have to spam 20 times before it actually does it.

Only problem with FFXI-type keys is the sheer amount of skills... I'm having trouble setting SMN abilities since there's way too many for just 3 rows of numbers.

I'm set up the same way. I haven't gotten down a way to navigate the menus with the keyboard yet though. I like to use the mouse as little as possible.

Beend doing that since beta. WASD are still set as a second set of movement keys. Its been a godsend really, to move with right hand and handle hotbars with left.

That's how I have it too, I like having 2 options for moving as it helps me use all of my hotbars easier. I also have a cluster of 6 buttons (home, end, insert, delete, page up, page down) that sit in 2 columns next to my numbers pad on this keyboard layout so I keybind those to frequently used buttons that don't quite make it onto my prime hotbar slots. My camera controls are the arrow keys which I can use with my thumb so it works out quite well.
