New 60 a few grievances I hope have answers

1 One rarely sees any chatter in game? I feel lonely sometimes like this is a single player game :/
2 I can't find an FC, I try using shout, but no one responds.

That's it everything else seems perfect.

I am playing of faerie is it just this realm? Do I need to be in a high population realm?

1. You'll probably find lots of idle chatter in the end game areas since that's where most players would be, I don't know about faerie but Limsa seems to be pretty populated because of convinience of the marketboard, there's lots of chatter on Tonberry in this location, even the place in Old Gridania where the marketboards are have people chatting

2. I'd suggest Party Finder as another option of putting yourself out there so people can offer you an invite into their FC

and as a side note, the game's going through a patch lull right now, so the game naturally feels quiet even on high pop servers like Tonberry

By the way, maybe you do play while most players are offline.

1. I do not miss the chatter of idlers especially the childish chatter of other MMOs. There are plenty of gil sellers idly using chatter for no good reason I HATE THEM
2. FC's are always shouting looking for new recruits you just have to be patient, or it may be your server?

Faerie has a fairly active Party Finder. Join every farm or WT party you can, and join in the conversation. Initiate conversations if you feel it is too silent. Add people to your friendlist. Join an FC and linkshell, or make one of your own and start inviting people. Before long you'll have plenty of people to talk with. It just takes that initial step.

It has nothing to do with server. I'm in one of the highest populated EU server and people barely talk neither in my 500 member FC or general chat.

Because plenty of people playing on consoles or using controller on PC. Also could be using TS and other voice chat programs.

Even in Idleshire people won't respond to even a simple question.

Gastovski's experience is absolutely not the norm, do not get the wrong impression. The thing is: in FFXIV, very few people talk in general chat. Most of the conversations happen via Linkshells, FC chat and /tells.
Lately the Newbie Network as a kiiind of global chat channel joined in, but if you are in none of these, I can see how the world seems strangely quiet to you.

Take a look at your server's forum page, usually there will be FCs who put recruitments up there. Ingame, there often are FC recruitments in PF. If you don't want to do it that way, specifically ask friends (or people you enjoyed the company of in content you did together) if you can join their FC :)
In general, smaller FCs with 10-40 members will be very active and talkative, while giant soulless "member-collecting" FCs usually only have people who quietly go about their own business and are only in it for the FC buffs, so keep that in mind when you make your decision.

Linkshells are a bit more tricky, but there sometimes are PF recruitments for people to join social Linkshells. If you are social and talkative, you'll generally end up with more linkpearls than you can hold anyways ;)
You can also try putting yourself in the pf with a funny message or something, I did that just for fun and ended up with so many /tells that led to new friendships as the conversations continued, stuff like that^^

Odin is a Server where it is totally usual to join a FC and do everything with people in there. It's all about having your own group of people to talk to and to play with.
Ever since there is a huge german playerbase on Odin, a lot of people don't speak english at all.

Probably you should have find yourself a nicer FC with way less than 500 members? Smaller FCs are often much more personal and more talkative.

This is just how MMORPGs are nowadays. The playerbase in general is a little different from 10 and more years ago. In general they're more introverted or into their own chat channels. I've always been like that, so it's a little weird to me to see everyone like that now. I honestly think not having chat bubbles has a severe subconscious effect on this, but I could be wrong.
