Square-Enix's "How the Mog Station Stole Christmas!"

So, if I'm not mistaken, we can't even get the Christmas tree this year without paying an additional fee on top of the subscription? I still have my tree, but my wife who just started this year will be very sad to learn this.

Grinch move, Square-Enix.

Does anyone else think that they're going a little overboard with making things Mog Station-exclusive? Sure, past mounts and minions are understandable, but Christmas trees should be obtainable within Eorzea every year.

We're one step closer to Whoville circa Christmas Eve, unless someone's corporate heart grows a few sizes.

I'm not sure it has to do anything with the Mog-Station, besides the Mog-Station allowing player to purchase past-event decorations.

Because event decorations are "year-unique", and you're not supposed to be able to obtain them again in-game.

So you're not supposed to be able to obtain in-game anymore:
- a Star-topped Starlight Sentinel (Outdoor Furnishing), from Starlight event 2014
- a Starlight Sentinel, from Starlight event 2015

The Starlight Pillar kinda replaced the tree for the 2016 season. Which is a good thing for people who already got the trees so they can extend their Starlight decoration collection. Getting a tree instead each year would be kind of boring for existing players.

Now you can argue that past decorations should be made available each year while adding new ones, removing the "year-unique" concept, but that's unrelated to the Mog-Station (The "year-unique" aspect concept has been that way since the game started before the cash-shop existed)

The Starlight Sentinel is still purchasable in-game--albeit on the Market Board. They run for about 300k on my server.
I'm assuming people can maybe (?) buy them from the Calamity Salvager, and then maybe sell them on the MB like they do the Dream outfit? I'm not sure since I didn't get the Starlight Sentinel last year, so I can't check.

The Star-topped Sentinels are also available on the MB, but they're 5+ mil on my server.

If the items can be purchased from the Calamity Salvager, and subsequently traded, I know it's not the same as earning it through an event, but maybe you can gift one to you wife? That way she can have one, too?

Is it not from the Recompense Officer, and not the Calamity Salvager? Also I don't think he offers past-event decorations, only gears but like you I'm not sure.
I just assume people selling them on the Market Board either realize they have no utility for the one they normally obtained, or they purposely stocked up on them in the goal of selling them later.

I wished they went back to selling past years items in game during these event...

You can only get the past event outfit items you already got from the events from the npc vendors, not the housing items. I'd really like to see the event housing items either come back for each years event or maybe turn into crafted items that use materials only dropped/available during the event period. Any of the items that can't be retrieved once placed (wallpapers, lights, etc) shouldn't even touch the mogstation.

From what I remember what they did in the past was just leave stuff inaccessible if you missed the relevant gear. The only reason it started appearing in the Mogstation was because people kept asking for old event stuff including through the Mogstation. There were long threads asking for it.

Yeah, this is getting really ridiculous. I was iffy about these items being put on the mogstation in the first place, but the last two events they made the housing items untradable and market-prohibited as well, meaning that unlike past events you now have NO WAY to obtain them after the event except by buying them on the mogstation. This is bad for the people who want the items and also bad for those of us who like to buy extras as an investment...

Fix this, SE, because it looks REALLY bad for you, when every event before you opened the mogstation featured a vendor selling previous years' items for gil, and post-mogstation you remove that feature. You can keep them on the mogstation for people who need Christmas items off season for some bizarre reason, but let us buy them for gil during the holiday (And TRADE THEM after).

Hmm... The reason they might have made the untradeable was to stop them from become a way to trade money for gil since they are selling them now.

I'm refering to more to the Starlight Celebration, All Saints’ Wake, Moonfire Faire seasonal types of events that they had sold those durring these said events.
Now like the lightening event and like that are one time events i can understand. but the others are like seasonal events items should be sold in game durring seasonal events
