I am range dps too. Haven't been able to get into a match this season lol although I haven't tried all that often. I usually cancel queue at around 40-60 mins. Could jump queue by playing a role which I don't enjoy much (esp. healer) but the good (limited) rewards aren't attainable enough for me to grind something that I'm not enjoying.
Trust me, healer queues aren't any faster in my experience. I've given up on PVP because I don't have hours to waste waiting for a queue to pop.
It's easier to pinpoint the issue if you give some more information:
> What are you even queuing for?
> What time of day are you queuing?
> What rank are you (if applicable)?
I am halfway through silver, started the season 3-4 days ago. You can rank up if you're dedicated, unranked queues were the slowest, and sped up slowly afterwards.
Had a 2+ hour queue for frontlines roulette today before cancelling and logging off. Hopefully January improves pvp participation with the new Feast map, the no-GC frontlines teams and just general increase in returning players due to new patch contents.
Caster > Black Mage <Unranked> The Feast -> I gave up at 180min > Going to heal till i get a rank i guess, i got the gist of it already.
Next time try to spam ques at start of the season, get Diamond quick then afk till end of the season, you are guaranteed to stay in Top100. Your best option now is to learn how to be a good healer and rank up with at least 45%+ win rate (need only 40% wins for earlier ranks). BLM is really not an option as they'll not let you cast in higher tier matches, and SMNs are weaker ranged against BRD and MCH.
The ques definitelly slowed down so I'm OK with just +40 rating every day.
They? The only people that can help make queue times better are the other players. A larger playerbase, and a more diverse one at that, would be required. Sadly, healing is by far an even more thankless job in PVP than in PVE.
