Beckon of the Elements pretty much not working out for me

I seriously just tried it over 10 times in a row today and tried it a lot yesterday. I don't know if it's a glitch or whatever; I talk to the guy choose the correct element. To make sure I click my character... then interactions -> Bless With Element (OR WHATEVER IT IS ) and click my character again and hit enter. Yet it still hits me and the buff still isn't working.

20 times already not even joking.

I even do the buff like the second he changes elements and still whenever he decides to start attacking me I pretty much die right away
