FFXIV World of PVP: #FNF Friday Night Fights and A Call to Arms

#FNF Friday Night Fights 10/21/2016 will be postponed until my static clears A12S. Tonight 5PM-8PM CST we will be our World of PVP discussion

Behind the scenes the community has gotten together several times, gathered knowledge from all over the world and made suggestions to SE that have been implemented in the game that we play today.

I am writing this post calling out to every hardcore PVPer in FFXIV that has a voice, an idea, a suggestion that wants to be heard. As a community I firmly believe that we can work through the issues that the PVP system currently has, make suggestions and see a real change in the way that we play this game.

I will be posting this and monitoring it the best I can throughout the day making sure I include as many members of the original PVP conferences in my Discord channel. If you aren't able to chat by voice please voice your opinions and suggestions in the comments below and in chat during the stream.

If you could do pvp after you cap script, but still have a chance to get 250 pve gear. That could help a lot of people from pve to come into the pvp scene because it gives them that chance to have an edge over the other pve players. Just an idea to try and draw more pve players into the scene.


Also with Joe's question at Fanfest about open world pvp servers or just open world pvp period. I know myself and my fiance would be all for that. PLEASE DO THIS! I think to slowly introduce this, lets move duels to anywhere in the world which with the ps3 removal in Stormblood i think this would be a good time to move that way. Lets make it so we can duel no matter where we are. Or introduce flagging. A system where we can toggle if we are "pvpable" in the open world you can only attack and only be attacked by others who are flagged. This will allow players who do not want to pvp to be able to avoid it while allowing the others, to just pvp to our hearts content. This could test the waters to see the interest, whether or not its worth implementing an entire zone or brand new pvp server.

PvP gear or None at all

The current meta when it comes to gearing up for PvP is mostly, play PvE content to get the ideal stats for PvP. PvP gear should be the most optimal for that content and not hurt the player for taking the time to get all the Wolf gear. For future seasons they should rearrange the stats so that the gear is ideal over PvE gear or (like WoW) just get rid of PvP gear and normalize all stats during a Feast match, so that when it comes to gear, it's all about the glamour.

The Short List
1. Fix match making. Stop giving high ranks brand new players in Feast, it's killing the mode and making active players quit. Make it so that matches will only match people within 1 rank. No silvers with plats. No unranks with Silver. Either all plat + gold, Silver + Gold, etc, or no game at all.

2. Fix MCH Burst. Come on now. Don't take 3 years to fix this like you did for SMN damage.

3. Give AST some love in PvP. You obliterated their Noct shield, but it still costs the same MP as PvE? This is just one of the many issues that AST has right now.

4. Make cross-data center queues possible for PvP.

• Update all the maps. When Stormblood hits the shelves the level cap will be raised, and naturally that means no one will do any PvP even Feast if they are still Level 60. Make all the maps update with the rewards, then make PvP one of the selling points (since players without any expansions aren't gonna be able to PvP anyway)
• Even if just for Glamour purposes or catching up. Be more consistent with the gear. I feel that there should be new gear for every other patch buy-able with Wolf Marks, the same for the Tome gear
• On a related note: add other rewards to the shops at the Wolves Den.
• Remove GC restrictions: self explanatory
• Feast Pre-seasons: Players need a buffer as to not make new content exclusive with climbing the ladder.

The only thing that drew me to WoW was the PVP servers. How that was executed was in my opinion perfect. The thrill of being in danger at all times or "hunting" an enemy in the open world consumed me. The neutral towns where if anyone started a fight, the guards jumped in to break it up. The PVP goal of Raiding a city and if completing the task of "slaying" the King/Queen granted the faction a timed buff. It added depth to your game.

In FXIV, that same system could be adopted. The Lore could be written and as far as PVP goes, an individual could make themselves notorious through their deeds, be it a positive reputation, or one that makes them a target, that would be entirely up to the decisions they made when choosing to fight someone or walk on by. Open world PVP would bring the danger so many people are asking for. Some of my favorite mmo experiences were that of being in deadly zones and having to escort friends across a zone. The threat of being alone brought players together. What about individuals who would target low level players? Put a safety status on players under a certain level or within certain zones that prohibit such individuals of being a target from high level players.

DotL? Gathering now is a risky business(Keep that stealth on). That's sure to beef up the the supply and demand of the market board. Too many times do we talk to NPC's who had their goods raided and stolen. Why should they be the only ones to worry about bandits and/or pirates? It's already in the lore, make that a reality to the players. Imagine for Gathering end game, a precious timed node is about to activate. You know people are nearby to farm the node and others are nearby waiting for the first victim, but no one is to be seen. The suspense as those timers get closer and closer to activating. Imagine as a Gatherer, having to bring a friend or two to watch your back or else be at risk of losing your spoils. Imagine the thrill and realism that would bring to being a gatherer. That is a level of depth I could get behind. To those who may not want to be a target, then they could simply play on a PvE server.

No matter the route it goes, I think everyone can agree that being gated behind 3 different Grand Companies will not allow for a immersive pvp experience in FFXIV.

At the very lease I would see them revising Duels before attempting this. Though the imfamy system you proposed would be interesting.

However before SE decides on making PvP servers first I'd want them to first allow cross-data center queues for instance PvP, because, if they make a PvP server/Data center, it ill become the PvP version of Gilgamesh, which would make both Frontlines and feast queues that much longer on servers where interest in PvP is low. Plus as a tournament setting having all the participants be able to fight each other regardless of data center would make things much more interesting in Feast.

This is in regards to Frontlines as I don't really do Feast.

1.) Yes, please work on rebalancing Ast as Noct isn't as beneficial as Diurnal is, especially in FL.

2.) Cross Data Centre FL would be amazing and I'm pretty sure there would always be 72s all day everyday. That would definitely draw in more people. Plus it'd be fun to challenge people from other Data Centres. Maybe get some premades going. Obviously we'd have to remove GC restrictions for this to function properly.
