SPOILER WARNING - Would you accept injuries to your character?

WARNING! ARTICLE CONTAINS POSSIBLE STORY SPOILERS/HINTS.

For those who have progressed through the story, we have seen companion characters suffer various injuries - varying from cuts and scratches to loss of limbs through to the ultimate sacrifice.
Yet our character has walked through all this with a charmed, near miraculous life. Completely unmarked by explosions, fights against magitek creations, giant dragons, not to mention countless beast tribes and armed warriors.

Not even a scratch.

But what if [there was an optional feature that] they did get scratched or scarred? Or maybe more severe? Injuries that remained with the character through their life, (possibly even through fantasia character appearance changes).

Would it add more realism for you, to the way you interact with your character and the story experiences it goes through?
Or would you always want your character's physical condition to remain the way it was on the day you created it?

I think that would be a terrible idea. Players HIGHLY value how their character looks, and forcing a defining feature like a scar would only serve to turn people off. I'm already invested in the story because I'm in love with the world and its people. I don't need something that artificial seeming in order to try to force "realism." I've already accepted featureless injuries years ago. It'd be more jarring than anything to have it be a thing now.

Moreover I'm sure it saves development time and keeps the ESRB rating to a manageable level. Having someone have a gaping hole in their chest and bleeding out as we hold them would surely increase the rating to M, which isn't a good thing generally. Not to mention the difficulty of making injuries that don't invoke narm charm.

And the final thing is I think it'd be REALLY stupid to see 100 other people running around a town with the same injury. I don't think this sort of change would benefit really anyone except for a very select few.

If story line injuries worked like titles or something it'd be pretty cool.

Like, losing your hand or something and getting a bad-ass magitek hand you can use would be nice, but I wouldn't want the game to force my character to wander round with her hand missing.

I would say it's a bad idea for the structure of the game.

This game is super linear, I think things like that only work with more open-ended systems.

Can you avoid it? If not it means every character will have it since it's not just my character it's everyone that goes through the MSQ.

You can't have things like losing limbs because then animations would be off and there's no way they would do that.

All other kinds of scars can be covered by equipment anyway. not like anyone can see your scars inside full Ninja/Dragoon Esoteric gear.

We have the echo that can cure our death. So it wouldn't make sense.

Yes and no...

Yes because I am a fan of blemishes and other imperfections. I feel they add a touch more realism to a character and is something I really like to gravitate to in any game I play character creations , since cos every scar tells a story.

With that said I have to say no in regards to things affecting my character as a result of a games main story quest. My choice to scar or imperfect myself holds to why I play MMO's, for my own story. I'm not here for the games story, just my own. The games story is just a side attraction to me. So no, I would be against the game telling me "okay you're going to have an eye shot out here and a limb removed there" I feel that's the game taking my own story from me and replacing it with its own.

Sides it would be kinda ummm...silly in the end with everyone walking around missing the same limb and eye.

Would hate it, people can already choose to add scar's to their charater or not if they so wish.

Gritty realism went out the window with flying hamsters with pom-poms of their heads, if I want a more realistic take on fantasy I play another game.

There are games that allow characters to physically change, if they take a certain path (a believe Fable 2 is one of them). Something about creating a character the way I want and then have the game change their appearance into something else rubs me the wrong way. There's a reason I want my character to look the way they do. I don't like the idea of it being altered into something else, just because they followed the story (which make the changes seem forced on me). A character should only change through the Character Creation imo. That's one of the reasons I never picked Fable 2 up.

However, doesn't the aesthetician include several options to include facial features such as scars? I know the character creator does, I'm pretty sure some of those options are available via the Aesthetician.

Why forceably inflict injuries/scars on characters? Why do it at all when there is already an option to have scars on their face?
