Why do Prototype chest pieces still take 4 weeks to obtain?.

It sort of made sense kinda back in Gordias as there was no crafted pieces and you could obtain a weapon first from tomestones but since Midas it's made no sense at all, you can get a better chest piece in the first week or second week.

Probably too late now but shafts probably should have been obtainable from third floors also.

You either pay millions of Gil or get the same ilvl gear for free. Hm..what a hard question ;)

Gathering classes are a thing ya know, never have to pay that much and you can get tomestone in 2 weeks.

My guess is that the usual "excuse" (and I do mean excuse) is to allow you to gear up other classes while you use the main tomes for your main class (which is already a big contradiction, because of all the "you can play all classes", but you can only fully equip one to decent levels)

But I do admit that I can't be bothered to do it anyway: in X weeks you'll gear your main class and by the time you do that, they'll allow you to get a 260 piece a week via the 24 LFR and to upgrade your current tome gear to 270, making you able to gear your second and even third class at this point (You'll still have tomes, but you just won't be using them on your main class). In other words, by the time you're finished gearing your one class, you'll have other means to gear your others.

I kinda wish they did the opposite: making alex normal gear be 260 but not upgradeable, since that it's already much harder to obtain (2 weeks for lore vs 4 weeks for alex). That way Alex gear won't just be taking dust after the future upgradable armor patch.

Except for weapon: that's gonna be useful in 7 weeks!

You don't need top of the line for a secondary class. My WHM is getting Alex drops but is still capable of clearing content at i230.

Same reason you need 7 gears for a weapon. It's to keep the queues rolling.

You could always get the Tomestone chest which takes 2 weeks and rest of the armor pieces from Alexander in 3 weeks...

That should get you high enough to unlock most endgame content.

Hence the question. It takes 4 weeks to get an i250 armor, or 2 weeks to get a i260 armor. Makes absolutely no sense.

It takes 2 weeks to obtain the body/leg aka 4 weeks total but you are only getting one piece of gear in that 2 week period. You invest 825 tomes and now you have the i260 body piece. To say it takes 4 weeks to get the i250 gear is mistaken because while you are working on the alexander 250 gear, you have the option to work on multiple sets. Accessories/Belt only taking 1 token to obtain compared to 375 ACC. So if we were to assume one gets 4 accessories/belt in 1 week, that you could say it like 950 tokens taking 100 off per for them being i250. But still, i250 is catchup gear and for those who want to micro/get their IL up the quickest. If you have i240 gear from last patch, in all honesty you don't need to take the time to obtain this gear.


However, you need to think of alexander normal gear less about being needed for i240 players and more for returning players, players who didn't play much last patch. Pretty much the dungeon/alexander and now crafted gear are the various ways to help players catch up. If they don't want to farm tomes to get the gear from last patch and run Weeping City to upgrade them to 240, they can just run Alexander and be done with it, at a slower pace.

So if you want to know why it's still the same cost as before it's because reducing the cost would honestly in a way be an insult to players who spent the weeks getting their 240 gear, just to have easier 250 gear appear that is a joke to obtain, that's why it has to take 4 weeks to obtain, because honestly, imagine if you could get 250 alexander body gear in 2 weeks and everything else in 1 week. Then pretty much someone who wasn't playing in 3.3 can come back now and in 2 weeks already be better geared than the person who spent their time getting the i240 gear.

Returning players can still get i260 body from tomes, and so it still doesn't make any sense.
