I feel as though sometimes our character's skin is too bare sometimes and not everyone wants to use the newer race with scales. That being said another way for use to use dye (ink) could be to have tattoos. Possibly be another crafting item or a new npc where you can purchase and provide the materials needed for the tattoo (color, design/pattern)
