GC Squadron thread/suggestions

So after doing a bunch of challenges and getting some of the recruits and training them up I decided I'd post some of my ideas and thoughts here on what we have so far and compile the things that I found to work.



Challenges that yielded recruits for me

1. Completing the 5 FATEs in 5 different regions yielded me an Elezen male THM dps recruit. Completing 10 unique FATEs yielded nothing.

2. Crafting 20 HQ items got me a Lalafell female CNJ recruit. 30 items in total did nothing.

3. Doing 3 minigames in the gold saucer got me a Female Midlander GLD recruit, 100 MGP challenge yielded nothing.

4. Wondrous Tails and Player Commendations gave me nothing.

5. 3 dungeon roulette got me a Female Miqote Pugilist DPS recruit. 5 dungeons in total yielded another DPS recruit, a Male Roe Pugilist

Deployment

It appears that even if you have a full crew of 8 NPC's, you can still only send out four at a time.

The ones that aren't out can be trained for an hour to let them gain exp and up their stats but the system reveals that the NPC's have a stat cap until they undertake a special mission to raise that cap. I haven't seen any special mission pop in to my log yet though.

Each mission shows the minimum stats recommended for it but it's too early to tell if you're guaranteed success if you're over those stat requirements or if it's just a minimum required for a decent chance.

Suggestions so far

1. Let us send out all of our NPC's at once.

2. Give us some short duration missions with smaller rewards.

3. Instead of the stats and the second in command NPC telling you if there is a good chance of victory or not, give us a very clear visual display of the % chance of success of a mission. There is no reason to hide this information.

I'm hoping there's a little more to it, like is there going to be missions where the composition needed will be wildly different, as in 3 healers and a dps, or 4 dps for example?

I on the other hand got a male dps lancer for getting the win 100 mgp at the gold saucer completion.

I believe it is random if completing a challenge awards a recruit or not.


I actually have a mission available with an item reward that increases the chance of getting a recruit from challenge log completion until you get your next recruit.

I wonder if the "easy" challenges have a higher chance of a recruit than the more difficult ones? Presumably the higher difficulty challenges would yield a higher level recruit.

Though I haven't gotten as many, my results are in line with the roughly 50/50 chance pattern you saw. I did two Gold Saucer challenges and got a recruit, then two crafting challenges and got a second recruit.

When I met all three minimum requirements I got the "This mission is sure to succeed" message from my second in command, whereas another mission of the same level but where I only met two of the three minimum requirements got the message about "It'll be a challenge but I think they're up to the task" or something along those lines. I'm thinking that looks like meeting those minimums = guaranteed success.

I think that's what the training sessions are supposed to be for. (Though I wouldn't mind more options as well.)

I rather like the assessment as the second in command gives it. It seems a more realistic way of expressing the likelihood of success.


Oh, and I found out one other piece of information. The XP and stat bonuses from training go to all recruits there as of the time the training session ends. If a new recruit joins while training is underway, they join in for the last part of it and still get credit.

Make it so our alts can be recruited on our main squadron and gain exp (up to lvl 50 maybe?). I know it will kinda clash with the plot as all out alts are "the warrior of light" but dunno, simple dialog fixes would help to keep the plot intact

In general a little more stuff to engourage having alts would be nice.

Another observation to add to this and I strongly think this is how we'll advance.

The first set of missions that we see are "Trainee" missions. I observed earlier today that when my squadron returned, the mission they accomplished was grayed out while the incomplete missions were not. I'm going to put forth a theory that you have to complete all the missions in the "Trainee" to unlock whatever is after that and once you do that you'll unlock a brand new set of missions, from there once you complete enough sets you'll be able to get promoted to First Lieutenant.

Actually they unlock as your squad levels up. Like the lvl 20 quest popped up today and my squad just turned lvl 15
