Is Endgame Just a Cycle of "Static Killers?"

I overheard some players in shout chat commenting that "A9S is going to be the new static killer" and calling some endgame normal modes "baby raids," etc. As a soon-to-be new 60 (I previously stopped playing for a while) what is concerning to me is that endgame (1) relies upon statics, and (2) is going to be a never-ending swing of "static killers" and then reactionary nerfs.

I've heard and read some of the horror stories regarding A3S, et al. In sum, this seems to be quite a warning sign and discouraging for new players getting into endgame as the game is already top-heavy as is (been out for a few years) and statics by their very nature are not welcoming to new players. I neither have the time nor the willingness to dump a load of cash for F2P MMOs, but the stuff I'm reading on FF14 seems to be just as worrisome.

Raiding relies upon statics. Lots of people have been at FFXIV level cap without raiding.

Reactionary Nerfs almost never happen in this game to Raids.

They're just joking (sort of) because AS3 (third floor of first tier) was considered a static killer, then AS6 (second floor of tier 2) so people are throwing around that AS9 (first floor of last tier) will be the new static killer.

Catch up on this game is simple, so I don't really get why people say this game is top heavy, and honestly it depends on where you are. Gilgamesh is known to be a raiding server, regardless of whether it is or not it has a bad rep of being "hardcore / elitist", on my server there's plenty of statics looking for people and taking new ones as well, but then again my server is more casual.

No it was A8S, 5,6,7 weren't that hard most groups got stuck on 8 due to the tons of mechanics.

AS6 was considered the static killer, as most groups that couldn't pass AS6 broke off, which is why it got heavily nerfed. AS8 is supposed to be hard, since it was the last floor.

No it got nerfed really fast 4 weeks after the patch was out and wasn't hard at all afterward, my static beat it right after the nerf.

There's a lot of people raiding that think they are a ton better than they really are; a ton of these ran to Gilgamesh during Gordias and found they're still unable to clear things...

But 6, to the majority of players, is the Midas static killer, even post-nerf; the casuals and bads can't handle it (which means they'd have a hard time with 7 and 8 anyway, but still. I know too many groups that couldn't kill it, or took 3+ months to do so)

It got nerfed because it was a static breaker, Yoshi P himself said he made it too difficult. I'm not sure why you're arguing with me on this anyway.

This all begs the question: is a static required to catch up? If so, I have a bad feeling about picking Gilgamesh since I already get a bad vibe from this server and it appears downright hostile to anyone new. Also, the referrals to "casuals and bads," that kind of mindset is concerning to me in playing in a matured MMO (it's been out for a few years). That's what I mean by a top-heavy player base; the vast majority of people are already at the end-endgame and with that comes certain undesirable characteristics for anyone new (ex: the country club mentality).

What I am saying is groups didn't break up over it because it was nerfed fast. It was AS8 that got people stuck cause most everyone I know was stuck on 8 not 6.
