Materia melding question
Hi. So I've do the grind to lvl 19 blacksmith so I can meld materia, but I need carbonized matter. Do I now need to grind again and become a miner so I can get is? I have looked on the selling boards but it's not for sale. Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi. It is there - either do a partial search for carbonized or... there are different grades of this stuff, so you need to look for "grade 1 carbonized matter", or "grade 2..." etc. up to grade 5. Good luck.

Found it, I had to put "grade 1" in and it came straight up, thanks for the advice

Also don't overlook that "partial match" option Ronin mentioned. Should be handy in future.

a level 10 miner is the cheapest roundabout for the material, but you dont have to if you dont want to, just pay the gils to people who did
honestly? Miner is BSM and ARM best friend, you dont have to grind it to whatever level but it can really help alot when you get to materials higher up like mythril and cobalt
it will help you out alot later on, but not necessary

My experience has been that melding materia to low level gear is nearly worthless. You'll level up so quickly, and have new gear available so often, that it's mostly a waste of time melding.
But that's just how I feel about it.

It's also worth knowing that there are NPC materia masters in cities that will meld for gil and don't require you to supply carbonized matter.

Also be aware anything you need tier 1 for, you can use tier 2+ for as well. Tier 1 are often more expensive because there's a miner and/or botanist quest that requires 99 of them. There's no penalty for using a tier above what you need. And if they're cheaper you save the inventory space too!

Thanks for all the reply's, I was kinda hoping after getting up to lvl 19 on BSM I could infuse materia onto my lvl48 dragoons armor, but I have to get into the armory job too, I hope it's worth the effort. Love the game but they could of made this part of it simpler.
