I just got Black Mage to 60 and holy crap I never had a more annoying time trying to do anything in a game before. It's like they design a job where you have to remain still and have the right timing to keep being able to use fire IV but design the bosses where you have to be constantly moving and become untargetable.
So for everyone that knows how to put up with it and do it correctly you have more patience than me and are way beter than I am.
I main black mage. I also have it leveled on a couple of my alts. I love it personally but I can understand your frustration when having to move and try to maintain your rotation. Enochian can be work but it's rewarding when you can get 4 fire IV's off at a boss and watch the HP meter drop as you do it. I enjoy as well a role like summoner which actually allows me to move around when doing my thing.
As you work at it you'll find ways to dodge and keep your rotation going. Helps to know the duty as well so you can somewhat plan or know what to expect from a boss.
Black Mage is really a memorization Job. We memorize rotations, we memorize where to stand and when to move, we memorize how best to use procs in loads of situations, and then if we're lucky we don't die. I've always enjoyed the job even back when it was, "The most boring job in the game", but I can also understand why people are annoyed and frustrated with it.
I leveled BLM up to sixty and then quickly decided I was never going to touch it again. In a game that's constantly forcing you to dance, having your feet rooted in the ground is torture to me.. It would often come down to snap decisions of "Do I dodge this telegraph and mess up my rotation, or do I just eat the damage and hope I dont die so I can finish my cast.."
I'll just stick with my Ninja..
BLM should have been a tank job. Just give move defensive/shield spells, generate more aggro and it could be lol
As much as I want to love and main BLM I admit it can be daunting. Though funny enough, I still find it easier than SMN and having to juggle your different stacks. Will say though the increase in spell speed for BLM does make it a lot easier and gives a weeeeee bit more room for error.
Hoping for some 4.0 modifications to my ex favourite job, right now its just extremely frustrating to move and then lose enochian, or the alternative - keep standing on the aoe and die.
Pre-expansion the job was fun and I could do most dungeons and trials, when it required movement I simply switched to Bard. In Heavensward though it has become much harder to play and less fun with the amount of AoEs you're thrown in and that we have to avoid.
Ley lines should not be an on-ground only buff.
It needs to stay on the character and if they want to keep animations
let it hover over your staff or back or something.
It's hard enough where you run around trying to keep up with Enochian
and then trying to run back to Ley Lines. It'll cut down some time re-position.
My hat also goes off to all Black Mage mains. I got it to 60, but found it too frustrating to maintain Enochian and dodge as much as the game requires you to do so.
