Maximum number of gear sets

*To be clear, this thread is about the number of available Gear Set slots in the UI.

I've been searching endlessly for an answer to this but Googling or searching forums always turns up either pre-3.0 info or info about specific armor sets. My linkshell friends and I were discussing how many Gear Set slots were available to use.

Friend 1: All jobs/classes at Lv.60. All job/class quests completed. Legacy character.

Friend 2: All jobs/classes unlocked. All DoM/DoL/DoH Lv.60, some DoW at Lv.60, the rest at Lv.36+.

Myself: All jobs classes/unlocked, All DoW/DoM/DoL at Lv.60, most DoH at Lv.60 except for ARM56, WVR51, LTW51. All currently available job/class quests completed. Legacy character.

Friend 1 and 2 both have 40 available slots, while I only have 38. Do you gain 2 slots from finishing all DoH, or is something else going on here. Where did I go wrong? Is this a bug? Also I'm interested in other people's number of gear sets.

I'd thought the only difference was whether you were legacy or not, but it sounds like you're seeing something else.

You start with several slots when the Armoury feature is unlocked, and then gain one more for each additional class or job you unlock. Since unlocking classes began with ARR, whereas legacy characters began the game with all the original classes unlocked, a legacy's initial gear sets are higher to account for not gaining more with each class unlock. I'd heard before that that adjustment left Legacy characters one higher than non-legacy characters on the total number of gear sets once all classes and jobs are unlocked, but maybe it isn't that simple.

Could the difference pertain to how many of the jobs were unlocked during 1.0 versus how many were unlocked after the game got restarted with ARR? (Just guessing here.) Or maybe it really is just bugged. :confused:

That was one consideration I had. I did have two jobs unlocked (and all classes) in 1.0, but "Friend 1" also had one job unlocked in 1.0 so it kind of threw that theory off.

Do you have the 3 specialist crystals?
Is it possible that when receiving a DoH Specialist crystal, the game unlocks another gearset?

This time I remembered to check.

I'm not legacy, and don't have all jobs unlocked. But on my main, with all 20 classes and 8 of the jobs unlocked, I have 35 gear set slots. So it looks on track for me to have 40 by the time I unlock the remaining 5 jobs.

My alts are in line with that as well. The one with the original 19 classes plus 1 job unlocked has 27 gear set slots, and the one with just 3 classes and 2 jobs has 12 slots.

None of them have specialist crystals, if that's pertinent. And none of them are level 60 in anything. The alts don't even have any classes/jobs at 50. So none of those slots came from maxing out anything, just from the original set (which must have been 8 slots) I got when first unlocking the Armoury system, and then the additional 1 slot with each additional class or job unlocked.

I know it's a little different for legacy players, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be stuck with fewer gear sets than us ARR players. I don't know why you'd only have 3 more gear set slots than I do when you have 5 more jobs than I do.

I have all three specialists, yep.

Update: I finished my remaining DoH classes and the respective quests. Still 38 gear set slots. ._.

Update 2: Reported this as a bug, and they fixed it so I now have 40 slots! Woo!
