Retainer Job Assignment Question

Hello all.

I've messed this up once before, and prefer not to be burned again.

I have a battle retainer that I want to make a Machinist, but I can't seem to find a definite answer to my question.

I have my character with Machinist level 50. To make my retainer a Machinist, are the following steps the ones I need to make.

1. Retainer hits level 30.
2. Buy Modern Vocation.
3. Change retainer to Job associated with current Class.
4. Retainer hits level 50 in said Job.
5. Buy 2nd Modern Vocation.
6. Change retainer to Machinist.

I really appreciate any help I get. I don't want to waste any more time and materials through trial and error and leveling a retainer back up.

Bumping this because it has been about a week. This question has gotten loads of views, and no response. Does anyone know the steps I need to take to make my retainer a Machinist? I am almost to level 30 and I really don't want to mess it up. All help is appreciated.

No you can change to machinist as soon as you get the option for setting a job. I know when I changed mine to Bard the option was there for Astro etc. I am sure mch was there too.

i think my level 60 arcanist instantly became a level 60 drk but i cant remember its been so long.
speaking of which, besides sharing old gear for the job, i dont see there being any perk or reason for making them a job besides aesthetics, they have the same hunt drops, and i cant really see any benefit besides placeholding old weapons or gear for that job,

Anyone please correct me if im wrong, but I havent really seen any reason to do this after all this time
