Just healed my first Vault!

In my quest to level all jobs to 60, part of that is leveling the healers (although I already have SCH at 60, I never leveled with him). I hit 57 WHM last night and was dreading having to heal Vault. Although I tank and DPS Vault with no problems, I could just feel the anxiety of every healer during the fight with Ser Sherbert. I knew the day would come that I would have to one day heal that fight, and that day was today. So, I put my big boy shorts on and qued....

.... and aside from a big pull where the MCH dc'd, no wipes! We were in pretty much good shape the entire time, even managed to keep the derp noob DRG alive during Sherbert! It really wasn't as bad as I thought I was, just keeping Medica II and Regen up and hitting my MP refreshes when I had them. Having run through that battle so many times as other jobs helped, too, because I knew right where to stand and when things were coming up.

So happy to know I can heal this dungeon now!

Congratulations! ^_^ The Vault is one of my absolute favorite places to heal. Glad you enjoyed yourself and got through without many issues.

I always found the Vault odd. I usually heal it, and as long as no one is screwing up the whole time, it's not difficult at all.
...but it's also one of the few areas that you cannot cheese around mechanics. It can go south instantly, for everyone, and is hard to recover as a healer.

Claribert's fight is a healing check in a game that generally overpowers our role. We can't sit still from ground AoEs and knights, we have to clean off bleeds, keep the tank up, break and then heal through chains, then help meet a painful DPS check. Nevermimd that all of Claribert's attacks hit like a bus.

What's nuts is MANY fights after this one are as busy and hard hitting. I'd rather deal with a messy Claribert than a messy Bismarck. (Why am I always stuck on shield and dragon killers....?)

I see so many healer struggle with the Vault, and back in 3.0 knew many who had trouble

Then I tried it on WHM and...had no issues. Trash, as long as the tank didn't overpull (which can happen in any dungeon), was easy to heal, and the last boss wasn't bad either (the big problem most had with the dungeon)

Running it a few times I did figure out what the main issue is with the dungeon; the other players. Especially the DPS. Found if they couldn't dodge, or kept just taking a lot of damage (cleaves, the vuln on the portals, etc) it became *much* harder to heal. And as I ran more Vaults leveling, I saw it again and again. Parties with people who could dodge and take minimal damage had an easy time. Parties with derpy DPS or a bad tank...had a much harder time.

I wanted to cry during my first time healing that, but in a way I feel like it's kept me on my toes in terms of movement for dungeons.
But it can definitely be more challenging than it needs to be when some will stand in things they shouldn't (Not that I can blame them sometimes).
