[dev1068] Materia Melding UI

After melding several 2 x materia equipments, I find the following aspects of the UI tiresome.

1) Have to scroll through half my items to locate the Materia
-> Like so many others have posted before me, separate tab please.
[Use Case 1]
I want to be able to see all my materia without clutter from other items.

[Use Case 2]
I want to be able to see all the materia I can currently attach to a selected item at the top (or bottom) of the list. (a.k.a. Improved sorting)

2) Unable to tell quickly why I can't meld a certain Materia until I click on it.
-> Materia that can be melded to the selected equipment should be "grayed out" differently from other types of "unable to meld", such as requirement not high enough.
-> Or perhaps give a different icon for each type, stacking them if necessary.
-> Or removed entirely from list if not usable for slot.

[Use Case 1]
I want to be able to quickly tell which materia I can use so that I can go buy the medium for it.

[Use Case 2]
I do not need to see the any of the materia that I cannot use for a selected item.

3) Unable to check quickly the melding chances of all the materia I am carrying - The repeated standing up and down makes it all the more annoying.
-> Chances to meld should be displayed in the materia list.
[Use Case]
I want to be able to know at a glance which materia I have the best chances to meld with.

Agree with all points.

Point 1 isnt so bad, if you are in your inventory, press the right arrow-key and it 'tabs' through the item categories.

uhhh i dont know what your talking about? it has a lot of that functionality?

perhaps its because i start out selecting the item i want to add materia too.
It goes like this for me.

pick item to add materia, choose meld.
a screen pops up showing all your materia only, and greys out all the materia that you dont have the items for, or cant equip.

Im guessing from your post you can also do it by selecting the materia instead of the item, but i never tried it that way so im unsure.

Yes it greys out everything. That's the problem. I can't tell the difference until I click on the materia and a system message pops up.
1) Materia that doesn't fit due to slot.
2) Materia that doesn't fit due to level.
3) Materia that you can't meld due to crafting level.
4) Materia that you can't meld due to wrong craft used.
5) Materia that you can't meld due to missing medium.

Materia for #1 and #2 doesn't need to be shown at all.

I am going for 2 or even 3 materia equips so I'll be obviously interested in my chances.
Materia Grades changes % success and I have a spectrum of them (of the same type) in my list. Now I have to click on each of them to see what the chances are, in the meantime clicking cancel on the dialog and seeing my character stand up and kneel down multiple times.
See the inconvenience there?

Agree it could be streamlined a great deal, I'm not a fan of materia system they designed, they should have made gear socketable IMO, similar to how it was in FF7 this way different gear (incuding U/U) would have different slots, you could use any materia in any socket as long as the level requirments were the same.

They really screwed it up IMO.

The system is over complicated due to them having to accomadate crafting and gathering into the process.

I think the RNG for materia melding is fine. Can get painful but then we're not talking about million dollar plus materials.
Socketable/Melding...pretty much all the same concept.

I think some balancing in the chances of success is needed though.

For now, melding a lower grade materia and then a higher grade materia gives a higher chance of success than doing the reverse. Since they give the same stats, I feel they should be the same chance.

Likewise, I feel that melding 2 x lower grade materias to give the same stats as a high grade materia should be close or at 100%. Right now, it appears that the highest possible chance is around 45%.
E.g. Max stat possible is +20. Anything above this value gets large penalty to success.


Hey, at least they tell you up front what your odds are!
