FFXIV - The Good & Bad

Whilst FFXIV is currently in the early stages of a complete overhaul, I thought it would be interesting to see what the players who have stuck with the game currently like and dislike the most about this game.

I understand that by creating a thread that encourages complaining that i'm only inviting the trolls to dinner, however, I would like for this thread to stay as positive as possible. Perhaps the player feedback and suggestions might be used to improve the game in the future.

Please provide reasoning as to why you like/dislike and in the case of dislike, perhaps provide a suggestion for improvement.

Favourite Thing about FFXIV: Graphics - Square Enix never dissapoints and are generally the world's leading visualists, particularly in the breath-taking cut scenes/cinematics. Final Fantasy's visuals have influenced me to become a 3D Modeler.

Biggest Dislike about FFXIV: DoH // DoL "Minigame"

Suggestion: Yoshida has made it very clear that he wants DoL + DoH to play vital roles in FFXIV. Unfortunately, Crafting/Gathering is simply not enjoyable (Mashing a button while you watch movies ect). So why not make it fun. Just because almost no other MMORPG has succeeded in making it interactively so, why not be the first?

• Look at the minigames games like Mario Party or the various App's on phones these days that pride themselves on interaction and implement similar features.

• Make Gathering / Crafting more randomized with greater rewards

• Certain events may trigger at random (Chance/Lucky time!)

• Make the crafting process more automated or more intricate.

• Until they overhaul crafting/gathering, shorten the grind to level 50 to encourage more players to take it up. The current grind is unbearable. They made DoW/DoM 10x faster to level, why not do the same?

You missed the Ugly.

Fair assessment; though I'd say the battle being fast-paced, lore being intricate, and the story being exciting would be among my toppers as well.

I have to agree though, DoL Minigame are all the same, just with a different look. DoH, same thing, same minigame.

The graphics, the story telling and cutscenes. (it's final fantasy!!)


Dislikes
The armory system, mostly the use of cross class skills.
Crafting and gathering mini games as mentioned above are boring and not very interactive.
That U/U gear has been made pretty much usless.

I'll stop here because I can think of a ton of dislikes and only a couple likes lmao.

Battle sytem: I like that it is more straight forward and not the keyboard aerobics of wow. I don't find "rotations" to be very dynamic or thought provoking, personally. I like systems that allow me to ajust strategies on the move.


Things I like but need work:

Market Wards
DoH game


Things I don't like:

Need a system for asking strangers to attach materia (no doubt will be fixed soon)
All of the new gear seems to be discipline specific.
Fixing gear with gobs of goo (it's not going anywhere, so worthless point :p )
The over-simplification of the crafting (some was needed, and again, it's not changing /shrug )

Thats off the top of my head... theres probably more stuff I could list.

Oddly enough, I actually like the DoL minigames and searching for nodes. Yes, they're all isomorphic underneath, and I can totally see it being a YMMV sort of thing.

Love the graphics and sound, I love chocobos and airships, I actually love the anticipation of knowing that everything we're used to is going to get wrecked and broken and turned on its ear. It's really narratively interesting to me and I'm excited to be playing through 2.0, both in-character and out-of-character (I like thinking about and discussing game design, and watching the rebalances occur is, while occasionally hair-raising or terrible, generally a lot of fun.) Actually thinking about it and delineating it, there's a lot more I love, even as early as 1.19. The battle system is pretty fun, although it needs a lot of work; the projected changes leading up to 2.0 all sound awesome.

Bad? I was never sold on the concept of guildleves, and they were poorly implemented - I'm more or less okay with their current place in the game, though. I wish there were more DoL and DoH leves. I wish DoL XP didn't get so terrible after level 25/30-ish, although this may be user error on my part. I wish crafting weren't... [insert your favourite monologue here]. Leaving out a lot of stuff Yoshida has specifically addressed... I wish that XP parties weren't pretty much forced to be roam parties, but that's... honestly a personal aesthetic choice, especially with delicious passive MP regen. I'm sure I could think of other things, but... I'm actually playing routinely, post 1.19, so the balance definitely tipped at some point for me at least. XD

i like everything about this game sept the dow and dom
wish they would get back to the roots of a ff game
there is so much crap going on in strong holds
how can u possible keep up with whats going on
to much aoe spam and to top it off the respawn times are so fast you dont even have time to think about it better start spaming again
manny vs manny was tanaka's vision why yoshi still doing this?
pretty sure i voted for complete over haul wish they would go back to strategy and less button mashing and spam

i like doh and dol and i like the chocobo's and the materia
just seems the battle system is way off the deep end

EDIT: now that i think about it ive liked every ff game up untill 12. 12 and everything after just seems to be a button masher crisis core, dissidia, 12, 13, and 14 what happened?

lol on that I can agree. :)

What happened is they went from turn based to ATB, and everything got put on auto so you could actually control so many characters. For 12 and 13 I think anyway.

Edit: I'm interested to see if combos help with this. It sounds like fun to me.
