Where to Start?
Hello im new to the game i decided to give it another try and im a bit lost. I did the main tutorial but it doesnt seem to have any major quests that i can do besides the guildleve am i missing a piece of content. Im just curious if at a certain level the game opens up and i get alot more content

You unlock new quests at your city at 8, 13, and then at level 18 you proceed to Ul'dah regardless of nation of origin to proceed. You're expected to level up between these quests on your own, whether via grinding or through levequests. Unlike other games, quests are not the main way that you level up in this game.
-
Depends on your definition of content. Some people seem convinced that leveling to cap is all the "content" a player needs.
There are various "main scenario" and class-based quests that come up as you level. There also are random sidequests from NPCs in the world, Grand Company quests, Toto-Rak raids and at the 45-50 range Darkhold and the hard mode for Ifrit.

What the other guys said.
The game does have side-quests that will give you some exp points + items (at times). Try running around the three cities and look for NPCs (or in the mini map) that have a little cloud over their heads with the "!" symbol (or was it a question mark?)
I see you're still level 7, for me it was easier to level up by grinding (and more fun) than trough leves. Also at that level you can participate in behests. Go to the nearest camp of your starting city and wait for the "Battlewarden" to pop up (every 30 minutes) and sign up. You'll get to kill some stuff and get bonus XP at the end.
Good luck!

So if i got it right until level 20 the way you progress ( battle class ) is through grinding or levequests and behests? And then there's the sidequests ofcourse :) i thought i read somewhere there is also a dungeon @ like rank 15 or something? Just wondering what content is available to me before grand companies :)

Yes, there's the Shposhae dungeon outside of Limsa Lominsa that you can do, although it might be tough solo, you can mess around in there between levels 15-20. There's keys to hunt and treasure chests to open with possible rare gear rewards, as well as special tough Notorious Monsters (that you will definitely need a group for). It's actually a pretty large area to explore.

I'm new also, started in Ul'... something.
So you basically just said before you can do anything 'fun' I just have to go grind outside of the city for a few hours?

Don't forget to check the NPC linkpearl, that is what I kept forgetting my first time around.
I just leveled a new character to 8 a week ago and I did the beginner levequest, then storyline quest in town, 4 guildleves, some GC questing and got to 8. At 8 did more storyline, bought new gear and was headed out to Camp Drybone to do some level 10 leves.
I only did a little grinding while walking from one place to another and then a little to get to 8.
Here is my poorly written blog post about it http://sumasusisters.blogspot.com/20...st-part-1.html

lvl
1-10 Grind DoW and DoM classes, lvl DoH through low lvl Levequests at the Adventurers Guild, Grind DoL
10-20 Start hunting down class quests in their respective cities - every city is a host to a number of Dow/DoM/DoL/DoH classes where you can obtain class specfic quests; Gathering will fuel your Crafting classes; lvling your DoH classes will help you gear yourself out on the cheap; Guildleves are great for solo.
20-30 Find yourself a ls if you haven't by now, you might want to try partying for your DoM/DoW classes; The same holds true for gathering and crafting classes - there is a synergy between the two of them; as for levequests if you do the lvl 30 Fieldcraft quests available at lvl 25 to gathering classes, the levels fly by. If you can find a ls member nice enough to help you kill the various world NMs for gear and achievement you could gear yourself out nicely at this point. And then there is chocobo and Grand Companies...
30-40 Party for DoW/DoM classes; Grind DoL classes from 30-35 then do lvl 40 Fieldcraft Leves from 35-40; Use the items you gather to grind your DoH classes; Check out what Grand Company has to offer; and Dont forget to do Class Quests as they become available as well as main storyline quests, etc.
40-50 Grind Grind Grind DoW/DoM on Raptors and Beastmen Strongholds; farm Grand Company Seals; gather goodies and do levequests for your DoL; then use those items to lvl up yer DoH.
50+ Primal Ifrit, Dark Moogle, Darkhold, Beastmen Strongholds, 2+meld Materia, Achievements, More to come etc...

I just started a new character in Limsa, and there are lots of things to do.
I got to rank 9 just by following the main storyline and doing some available miniquests in Limsa + only 2 leves.
No grinding either (although you can grind from lvl 1-10 in about 10-15 min if you want to..)
I still have mini quests to do, but I guess I'll do a few leves and behests now for Gil and Exp until lvl 12/13 when the main story continues.
Shposhae is a lot of fun and has lots of really useful equipment for any fight and magic class.
Maybe you both should find a LS first, it's way easier because they can help you, explain stuff and you also always have people available for group content like dungeons:)
So..no, you don't have to grind a few hours until you get content.
First content you get is the main story line which starts at rank 1.
Later on though, you WILL have to grind a bit or do leves/behests to get to the next rank at which you get more content.
That's not different from other games though in which you rank up through quests.
Having 500 quests all saying "kill 10-30 mobs of this type because I don't like them" is the same kind of grind as getting leves in FFXIV which tell you "kill 12 mobs of this kind because there are too many".
