Doing Faire Events
I've been playing for 2 days and am still below level 30 - so *many* main line quests to do to unlock things.
The only thing I've found for the Faire that just started is a NPC in the middle of Limsa who has a level 30 quest. I have not trekked over to costa del sol where I understand the Faire may be.
Is the Faire only for people that have at least one class up to level 30? Or, a slightly different question, am I best off waiting until 30 to head over so as not to have to repeat things or do things and get no reward because I don't have the quest?
I've already seen that a lot in this game is quest driven e.g. even if you are level 60 you need to have done certain quests to unlock things like mounts, use of airships between cities, travel to housing zones, the gambling resort etc.
Thanks.

Yes you'll need the required class level to accept the quest in order to receive the rewards. This is a limited time quest so you'll want to reach lv30 asap if you wish to participate.

Welcome to the game. The Moonfire Faire event lasts from Aug 5th to Aug 26th, so you still have some time to reach level 30 and participate. Leveling now goes a lot faster than it used to so you shouldn't have a problem getting to 30 before the event ends.
As far as heading over to Costa Del Sol before you get to 30, there won't really be much to do since you won't be a high enough level to do any of the quests. Unless you just want to hang around on the beach and watch everyone do Power Ranger Poses, which is entertaining by itself.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. I started off wandering around and exploring - the charm of a new MMO where I wasn't rich with half a dozen maxed out characters - but having learned that this game has a main line quest series that unlocks so many things - mounts, grand companies, flight to other cities, you name it, I am now plowing through these quests (called msqs?) and am up to the level 20 one though my class level is higher. Still, 30 today or tomorrow seems likely since I'm not starting any other classes until I get to 30.

Yeah, in this particular game almost everything is gated via quest. A great many of them are the main storyline quests(which, yes, we abreviate MSQ typically), so just following the story through the game will get you a lot of options and show you most of the world. But there is also a ton of optional content as well, so it never hurts to keep an eye out for new opportunities. In the last year all the "special events" like the current Moonfire Faire and Yo-Kai crossover thing have been either level 15 or level 30, and each of them lasted at least a couple weeks to give everyone plenty of time to participate. And for a final bit of class advice(which you might have already figured out), when youre ready to branch out you might want to start with arcanist(you need to get it to level 15 to become a white mage) but eventually make sure you get around to doing thaumaturge as well. Your most important cross-class skill Swiftcast(your next spell happens instantly - usable once per minute) comes from them. You can put it off awhile, but most healers find that they need it before level 50.

They changed the icon on quests which unlock content / features to make them stand out. Sidequests with those blue-ish icons unlock stuff. And yes main scenario quests (msq) are the single most important thing to do in this game. Need to progress the story to reach new places and content. It's recommended you just scoop up all the quests you see everywhere. You don't need to save them for giving exp to other classes since there are plenty of repeatable exp sources like levequests, fates and dungeons.

Thanks. I've been following fairly common advice to save normal quests for future classes though there is enough around that it probably doesn't matter. Any quests with the 'this unlocks something" icon get snapped up fast!
Plan is to take arcanist next to 15 to unlock white mage then take this to at least 50 to get to the expansion unless I find that healer was a bad mistake and I might as well start over as dps. Reading the game description I thought conjurer *was* dps. I hear you about thaumaturge also even if only for one ability.
Long MMO experience teaches that first one gets to maximum level to support a growing family of toonlings (in this game new classes without new characters).

I have an alt below 30, and spent Saturday leveling from 22 - 30. This involved picking up the Yokai quest, doing a ton of Fates (77 I think, to get all the minions), then doing MSQ to unlock the next dungeon, doing that, then running a leveling roulette. Made a hunting log kill after that and bam, 30.
If you don't have it already, pick up your Challenge log. It gives you extra experience towards a lot of things like fates, guuldhests, levequests, etc.
