We're not locked into a job just because we're the class confusion

When reading some of these thread titles and posts within the threads, people make it sound as if you're locked to the job once you pick the class (i.e. Archer with Bard, Conjurer and White Mage).

When you're an Archer, you can choose not to be the groovin' spoony bard of bowharp and maintain your cross class abilities. Or when you're a Conjurer, you can choose not to be a White Mage and still have your elemental spells, plus the Curaga that got you in the party, maybe have some Thaumaturge spells loaded, Chameleon, or Defender. And when you desire (provided proper investment), you can whoop out the bo-wharp and become the Bard or the whatever-the-moogle White-Mage-weapon-is to be the White Mage. Maybe losing out on cross class abilities, but more specialized in whatever role they're intended to fulfill.

Unless there's a Bayohne, Rukkiri, or Subligar-san translation somewhere that gives no incentive to be the class anymore (i.e. if you could still use cross class abilities when the job is active). I apologize if this conclusion was already reached in any of the given threads or even before the thread was posted.

I think you misunderstood what people are concerned about. It's not that we'll never be able to switch between class/job once we do the job quest, because we will. It's that we won't be able to equip different types of weapons on different jobs (PLD with a polearm or Warrior with a sword). This is what people mean when they say jobs being locked to their parent classes, because classes themselves are just weapon specializations.

The main reason your OP is irrelevant is because the dev team hasn't promised to keep class and jobs about equal. Since that is no priority for them, what we all know from experience is that jobs are going to become what the game is centered around. It will become a form of progression, UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE. It's a concern of mine that could be addressed through a plan by the dev team or adjustments to the flawed sounding system.

as yoshida explained, Classes were given a large assortment of abilities, such as every class getting some sorta HP healing ability (maybe not ARC never played it.) as a means to solo better.

Yoshida wanted to put jobs in, to make you lose out on solo ability, aka remove defense, to add to offense, if your a DD for groups.

Jobs arnt solo friends, but group friendly, where as classes are meant to be solo friendly.

People who are ARC, are worried because they already do the lowest dmg, and when other jobs gain MORE offense (at the cost of defense), the ARC can't just remain ARC, if it did, it would only get FURTHER behind in damage.

Personally I'm ok with ARC > BRD.
or CNJ > WHM

What I'm not ok, is how it was done THIS late into the game, when ppl took up the class, fell in love with it maybe, to only find out it's gonna be changed entirely.

(I have the same complaint about LNC possibly getting wyvren. I didn't sign up for getting a nerf, so I could have a gimp pet)

I like to have an idea of what I'm getting myself into BEFORE i take it up.
Not play GLA to be a tank, and 2 years from now, it becomes the main healer of the game. (Some how unable to tank anymore)

The job system makes absolutely no sense unless the loss of cross classing is compensated by a dramatic increase in a primary function (tanking, damage output, healing, etc.) through stat alteration and job specific abilities. Otherwise jobs would serve no purpose.

We have no concrete information about this yet, true, but it has been implied since the job system was first announced. Jobs are going to REPLACE classes for full party content.

I do recall that design intent comment they made and considering it, I think I can see where the concern is coming from more.

I suppose lately I've treated some of the things they said with grains of salt. Things I thought would happen have been rescheduled, things that I did not foresee, happened.

And so I'm eager to see how these jobs will play. If they are to be significant enough to be more effective in party, so that we're not all equipped with similar skills like Cure or Raise... uh oh Raise...

My threads seem to make me realize the horror of the question I've asked, will White Mage be able to use Raise with reckless abandon, can we use Raise/Resurrect with the job layover, or will we have to abandon jobs to keep Raise on hand to prepare for the inevitable death?

That's the exact reason why we need Reraise items... haha. But the dev team has said they had no intention of bringing them in unless new battlefields would nearly require them (think FFXI's Dynamis). That said, I suppose it's a possibility that some actions will be usable but others not. Maybe they'll have it so any abilities before level 30 can be used as thats the level they're thinking of having the job quests start. In that scenario Raise/Resurrect would still be equipable.

I would prefer if they do Job as min-maxing specialisation, while class retain more hybrid approach. For example:
GLA can use 2h sword or dual wield sword on top of Sword + Shield to do more DPS while retain many Defensive Ability, Paladin stuck to Sword + Shield but gain more Defensive Ability, especially ones that block Magic. So if a party has 2 GLA/PLD, one person do PLD as main tank while the other do GLA as back up tank/dps contributor. Put some fight that make it near necessary to have 2ndary tank, for example a boss with hard to evade Petrify on main tank (kind of like Uraeus, but harder). So whenever PLD is Petrified, GLA jump in to tank until PLD is un-petrified.
ARC get better DPS from far away and have highest DPS on Winged creatures or boss like Garuda, but Bard can give Offensive buff to party but contribute less DPS. So if there are two ARC/BRD, you would one to be BRD and the other to be ARC to maximise DPS.
Just some example how job won't mess with class.

Let's just wait till the dev notes are released on this topic they said it's coming shortly...so no point in speculating till we see it all....

It's already been pointed out on some posts that whole class set of skills may be shifting. They also have prepped mage classes since most recent patch...people heal with conjurer...people nuke with thaumaturge.

And OMG someone actually not level 50 and paying attention to dev posts about classes for solo play and jobs for group play. I give thee 100 million stars...
