Voidsent origins

Some time ago while doing Weeping City, I thought of the ambiguous nature of Voidsent. Then I remembered Unukalhai's story of the fate of another star, how the champions affected by auracite's flaws led to them warring over the star's depleting life force. So I wondered, if that scenario were a recurring phenoma on multiple worlds, could Voidsent (especially the high ranking "nobles") be the ultimate end result of those auracite champions?

Well, you have to remember the very term 'voidsent' means literally 'from the Void', but is usually meant to refer to something 'not of Eorzean/Hydaelyn origin' - the Void being the 'world between worlds' that has appeared in multiple FF games (specifically FFV). Gilgamesh specifically was cast into the Void at the end of FFV and became a traveller of it, using it to travel to other FF worlds (like FFVIII and XII and.. of course... here in FFXIV), so... on one hand... the term 'voidsent' could potentially mean a creature from another world.

But on the other it seems Eorzeans themselves tend to use it as a 'catch-all', placeholder term in bestiaries to refer to anything that they're unfamiliar with or has an uncertain origin, even if it ultimately has a mundane explanation (an example is the squirrel enemy the Deepvoid Deathmouse, which despite the intimidating name which literally has the word 'Void' in it.... just looks the same as any other Eorzean-born rodent.

So really, the term 'voidsent' can pretty much mean anything a person wishes something that is unfamiliar to them to be, coming from 'another world' is a good a reason as any.

I wonder what the high ranking Voidsent like Diablos think of the Ascians.

I had a similar thought in some other thread a while back...

Unukalhai says they became twisted aether hungry monsters, which is exactly how I'd describe Voidsent... Presumably, once a stars aether runs out, the only thing remaining is the Void, so one can see them ending up there and becoming what we call Voidsent... They still seek aether of course, and other worlds have plenty, though with barriers preventing them access, but they just look for ways around that...

I'm very interested in seeing where the Shadow of Mhach goes at this point... The Nullstone makes for a very interesting artifact, more so if we actually do blur the definition of Voidsent... Could we blast Derplander with it? Elidibus? Heck, shouldn't we use it to go save Unei and Doga? Then we've got no clear location for the finale, and Diabolos as a clear antagonist, so I smell a Dynamis reference on the horizon...

Speaking of Dynamis, isn't it strange that all the voidsent in Eorzea are common demon enemies from Vana'diel? I mean, it's possible that the demon bestiary in Vana'diel comes from the same place as the voidsent that we see in Eorzea, but XI was characteristically heavy on undead/demon enemies without needing any summoning rituals.

Add to that that Atomos seems to be a portal between points in space as well as time, and you have the makings of a larger Vana'diel cameo than a throwaway crossover event.

GILGAMESH has a rare affinity to the Interdimensional Rift, sorta explained in what might be his origins in Type 0. It's just by FF5 he had very limited control over it. ExDeath had more experience in it. In lieu of Dissidia it seems GILGAMESH can only traverse dimensions if he find a specific area where the boundaries between the physical and ethereal are relatively weak. A good example being FF8 when Odin's sword cleaved a pocket dimension open allowing for GILGAMESH'S entry.

Over the series however it would seem GILGAMESH is slowly learning how to harness his long dormant abilities from Type 0...at the very least his ability to traverse dimensions. An ability only shared by himself, Omega, and Shinryu in FF lore.

To give a XIV example he dipped himself into the Rift to transform into his true form. And Primal Bahamut may very well could have caused a powershift allowing GILGAMESH entry into Eorzea.

As for Voidsent I think it's more they are demonic entities from the Rift that normally ethereal can come into the Physical plane of existence once enough aether has been siphoned to sustain physical forms. Most Voidsent are flatout Outsider/Demon type enemies. It's just ones like Ferdiad and Diabolos are high class Voidsent.

While voidsent can be used to refer to any creature from outside Hydaelyn, it seems to be used specifically for those creatures that have grown accustomed to and are native to the void. Demonic creatures that use the destructive energy of the realm for their own. As far as the voidsent that also appear in XI, one thing to remember is that for most of XI a common thread is that the dimension itself is wildly unstable, being a shattered held together version of the original world, crossing over into side dimensions is basically routine after CoP, so I wouldn't be suprised if Voidsent had an easier time crossing over. Hell, two varieties of endgame revolve around pulling enemies that linger into the void into our plane to fight them on our terms.

That said however, the demon class in that game seems to be wholly the result of Odin, mainly as servants to his worshippers. Now, whether the demons pulled to Hydaelyn are simply voidsent that use the same skin much like the machina that use skins from FFXIII or if they literally are the demons from Vana'Diel pulled over here kinda remains to be seen.

Now I have my own Crackpot theory to posit

Once upon a time Hydealyn and Zodiark clashed, 14 or so worlds are so were created, each being similar to each other manly in the presence of Hyur, Lalafell, Roegadyn, Elezen and Miqo'te (and Au Ra and other races SE implements)...fast forward to the development of Auracite as Aether batteries, for the sake of contrast with the one we are familiar with lets call this type "Black Auracite". Champeons there used and abused this power, sucked the aether out and destroyed their world or "Star"... the end. Or is it?

Now for the theory, because of the aforementioned apocalypse the people of the spoken races changed. Whether form lack of aether, death, or something else, the denizens of this world (The Warriors of Darkness included) became demonic entities, or in their words, voidsent. The Black Auracite comprising their bodies and gave them enhanced aether sucking powers. Eons passed since then and very few were able to retain their memories of mortal past lives, let alone their shape. And all have an insatiable thirst for aether and primal energy

doesn't it list in-game that most "Voidsent" (like Succubi & Aharamin) all come from a malific/demonic entity the lives in the Void aethericly "possesing" a dead corpse or part of a corpse in some case's, then using said corpse to "make" eather there "true Form" (Form they had in the Void) or whatever form the "Possesion" would have made & the only other times they can arrive in our world in their "true Form" is when they find a weak part in the wall between the Void & Eorzea (like how some Imps types make it threw)?
