Grade 5 materia melding

Are certain pieces not allowed certain materia? From the moogles story rank ups the player gets a choice of grade 5 materia. I have plenty of grade 5 carbon matter yet cannot meld these materia. Is there a ilvl which they work on?


Nvm ilvl 160...

Gear has to be off a certain type of item level to be able to achieve the full effect of the said Materia. So for instance i can not put a V in a level 15 bit of gear it needs to correspond with current item level.

Yea was trying to put it in some plain lvl 60 crafting gear but the ilvl is not high enough.

You should hold onto the rarest materia (the T5 ones you got) for the highest tier gear.

You could do this.
Or, you could sell the T5 materia now, while the prices are still reasonably high, and then buy new T5 materia once you get the highest level gear.
By that time the T5 materia prices should be considerably lower, since they decrease little by little every day.
