Is anyone else unable to update their client and getting the unable to complete version check error?
That's because there is maintenance, and the servers are down, including the patch/lobby server

They'll post on Lodestone when you'll be able to update your client with the new patch. It usually doesn't happen this soon since it's a long maint. Just keep an eye on the site.
If SE follows pattern then the patch should be ready for D/L around 10:00 PM PDT
The best way to tell when the client will be able to be updated after logging in, is to launch the launcher and see if it does the "updating launcher" which is like 3-5MB If it does, then patch server is available. If it doesn't, then no point in trying to login.

If you see that, then go ahead and login, more than likely the patch will be available for download.
Surprised there hasn't been a "do we get a refund/credit for the downtime" post here in the General Discussion section.
I have the same issue, you cannot start the launcher. Not the game, the launcer., boot error, unable to complete version check.
I this normal due to mantenience? If I remember, this didnt happened before, you could start the launcer but not entering the game ( due to servers offline )
