Start over

Just got the game again, dont have expansion.

Do i need expansion or can i wait until i hit 50?

You can wait until you hit 50 :)
The expansion's content and areas doesn't start until you have reached level 50 and finished the entire main scenario of ARR (that includes all of the patches up to 2.55!).

The only thing the expansion allows you before that is the creation of an Au Ra character and to gain exp past level 50.

Unless you want to make a new Au Ra character today, it doesn't matter. Preferably buy it before you hit 50 since the lv50 storyline now provide exp so you can gain a couple of lvs before entering HW content.

If you really enjoy the game, I would get the expansion at level 49, then when you hit 50, all the 100 something main lvl 50 story quests you have to do to unlock the expansion at least give you a good 5 or so levels :D
