New Frontlines

So... This was unexpected... Were there any details hidden in moonspeak?

Not sure how I feel about this... New maps are always welcome, but I'm really really really sick of them effectively replacing PvP content... Secure and Slaughter are still stuck at Lv50... Is it too much to ask for them to rework the old stuff so we actually get variety in map/game mode, instead of just flavour of the month "variety"?

Kinda an odd move to put this in 3.3, too... Feast Season 1 will still be going on, wouldn't it make more sense to release this in 3.35 so it at least sees maximum activity during Feasts downtime between seasons?

Here's me wondering if Shatter is codename for a ranked Frontline...

I think it's just the name it'll have... Fields of Glory is the location, like Carteneau Flats or Seal Rock, while Shatter is the mode name... Shatter is an odd one though, I was expecting Siege next... They're definitely being somewhat predictable with the names though (Secure, Slaughter, Seize, Shatter. The Fold, The Feast).

Technically, Frontlines is already ranked on the Lodestone... Might be nice to improve upon that and offer up some tangible rewards though? Would be interesting to have sort of a casual ranking going on all the time with the monthly rankings for Frontlines offering incentive to keep the scene active... Perhaps just make Season 2 about Shatter though (no, please don't do that... 3 people is bad enough...), this game doesn't have the PvP community to sustain two PvP modes in tandem... I mean I'd like Frontlines to be active, because I'm not the sort of person who can Feast all day without getting burned out, so being able to jump into Frontlines when Feast gets too frustrating would be nice, but I'm not sure SE can work that...

Hmmm. Siege. Wonder if it'll be similar to say... WoW's Strand of the Ancients, just with Magitek Armors instead of tanks?

There was some old concept art from pre-2.0 for PvP that had an army outside a large fort with siege weapons, I've always figured Frontlines would eventually see something like that, and Siege seems the obvious name given their naming pattern. I'll see if I can find it...

I always wanted Frontlines to be more open world... Sigh... Something like Diadem gives me a bit of hope, it's a large zone that can accommodate a lot of people, make it cross server and set up three Grand Company camps, along with outposts and objectives to hold... Could be interesting, you just go in and try to help your Grand Company maintain its dominance in the zone, rather than going into an instance and it ending with a victory/defeat... Makes more sense for Gatherers too, Diadem is kinda iffy on that (Diadem is kinda iffy in general), but needing resources to construct siege weapons, so you go out to gather them in a PvP area? That could be very fun... Either as a Gatherer, or defending them, or hunting them down to deny other Grand Companies their resources...

All this said, we need GC restrictions on FL removed for FL to really flourish well.

It looks to be set in Coerthas (Eastern or Central Lowlands, given some of the green?), so perhaps they'll get around the Grand Company restrictions that way?

Rather than Twin Adder v Immortal Flames v Maelstrom, we could have House Dzemael v House Haillenarte v House Durendaire, with each essentially mixing the Grand Companies?

I actually wouldn't mind it lore wise being 2 alliances pitted against each other. Dzmael + Durendaire vs Haillenarte + Fortemps. Would actually be pretty sensical Ishgard lore wise.

It would also mean alot more people would need to queue for a game to happen though so... idk.

Hopefully its more like Secure or Seize and less like Slaughter.

They need to scale all of the other Frontlines to 60, and just rotate which map has a "bonus" or something per week/day/whatever, so all of them get played...
