Here is the rotation I use for reds.

Gathering your first red scrip items is pretty daunting and figuring out what works best can be tricky since the system doesn't really tell you.
To avoid using up GP on Toil, I would recommend using the following site to track the nodes since it gives you great granular control of what you want to collect as well as giving you specific times for when things will spawn: http://www.garlandtools.org/bell/
Gear is your next big thing to worry about. The blue scrip gear is decent to start with, but it's very much worth investing in the Serpentskin gear and melding as much Perception on that as you can get until you either fill it out or reach the perception cap for the lowest item you're going to be gathering. You will know when this is when a single DE -> MA gives you a collectibilty of 172, which is the current increase cap.
Until you get to this point, it's probably best to straight use DE -> MA 3 times and collect what you can. Save up for the main hand tool and it'll make things much easier, then the off-hand. After you get the main-hand, you'll want to experiment with the routine from above, but if you hit DE -> IA and you don't get the 172 boost, you should probably stick with DE -> MA until you get another piece.
From there, work to get your Perception up to the cap (I know there's a place that tells you what that is, but I'm not sure of where that is at the moment), try to get your GP up to at least 625... 650 is optimal, and you can offset with food. Gathering helps, but that has a cap too and it seems like you'll never be able to get that elusive raw 100% collection rate, which is where 650GP comes in so you can use the 50GP gathering rate buff after burning the 600GP on your appraisal buffs.
