Terra FC Live Auction Video!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a video of one of our live auctions we do in our FC. We keep it open to members and friends. The general idea is we auction off 10-15 items with 2-3 minutes (random finish) of bidding in /say. We do this in our FC basement (which we've fixed up with catwalk and stage and seating. Usually we get around 30 people. Tonight was the release of our new basement though so we pushed a nip past 40 during parts of the night. Special hat off to Medicus and Ziek who designed the stage structure for our basement!

I wanted to share this as others FCs on our server sometimes ask what we do to keep Terra busy and interesting, and this is one of the activities that's been most popular. As for items sold we do a combination of donations, crafted items, pets and music. We also sell off materia from the airship and finished parts. Since our proceeds have been really healthy, we do a random discount roll for who ever wins (/random 1-333 = 10 percent off, 334-666 = 20 percent off, and 667-999 = 30 percent off). This helps encourage less reserved bidding but still often results in good discounts. Ultimately the auction earns a fair bit of money, but all of the proceeds are put back into future auctions, raid food, airship upgrades, housing furniture etc. It definitely allows people to have MUCH more fun donating items and feeling like their part of something bigger to which they are helping build and contribute.

Note when we started this a few months back we started with around 10-15 people coming and only ~8 lower cost items. So you can definitely start something like this on a smaller scale. I will note it takes someone responsible to host/moderate the auction, get the items each week, and handle the money. Also I try to keep the auction capped at one hour (which is usually 10-15 items). Anyway I hope you all enjoy, and maybe some other groups will find this activity useful in their FCs!

I like your tumbler and wordpress Mihael very neat sites! I bookmarked them for future reading, its hard to find good housing websites sometimes in FFXIV!

We're also in the process of hosting other events like scavenger hunts and maybe open world chocobo races from time to time. If any others catch on really well I'll let you all know ;-)

I am impress that it is so organized.

It's definitely good for member activity, interaction, and a bit of participation. It gets surprisingly riveting watching the auction, even if you don't bid.

This is a great idea. I've been looking for things to liven up the FC a bit, and I might do something like this.
