Disciple of the Market

Class idea: Economist.Quest begins with u as a salesman, bartering for goods.U then move on to trading options on the marketboard, placing calls and puts.And then, when you are a master,u can trade currency!..OK maybe that's a little too far but I still think this would be a cool class to have. Imagine a quest where u would have to put up fliers around town advertising "cotton boll for only 2 gil at Weavers guild", so people would not pay 100 gil from marketboard.In another quest, someone has a monopoly selling lumber for a high price. Citizens are outraged, but the lumberjacks don't care.So, u have to go around cheering them to get back to work in order to bring the prices down.As the quests progress, the tasks would become harder -even deadly if enough money is involved. This class could be a fun way to education people on the importance of understanding economics.Also, for completing this class,u would be awarded a minion that would find and collect gil for u as you walk ;)

You know a lot of people don't care about 'learning' the economy of a game, right? Not to mention this just seems like some goofy sidequest you'd only ever see in a single player game, not in a huge MMO.

Not to mention why should a minion be able to find gil for you? You'd see people just afk walking in circles basically doing nothing to get gil. Sure a 'tiny bit' like you suggest may seem like nothing at first, but when a lot of people do that, even more so with gil farming bots, it can really add up.

...plus it's kind of hard to take this seriously at all. (FYI, edit a post to bypass the 1000 character limit)

Good point about the minion. With your logic, the same can be said about the crafting and gathering classes. They're pointless. All you have to do in a mmo is grind for the best gear. However, some people enjoy the gathering and crafting process.

Nice twist of words /sarcasm. When people craft they bother taking the time to buy/gather the items themselves then either use marcos or auto craft. Minions are NOTHING AT ALL to anything but a mini game and something to collect. AKA not needed at all. Crafters are needed for relic quests/near armour and accessories as they come out/food/many other things.

Why should something that isn't needed at all get us items for doing nothing at all, hm?

I don't mind this idea, but I think you are going about it the wrong way, this should not be a class at all, as it would do nothing relevant (what would its tool be and why would you even need to have a tool?). This is OK as just content that any class can do though, a side quest to learn about the economy and how the MB works might be cool to educate people. As for the minion, I will say that it is fine so long as it only gives around 400gil an hour (makes it equivalent to retainers), that might not sound like much, but it's free gil that is balanced with equivalent content

They're FAR from pointless. They're needed to help other players differing from healing items/food/crafted gear (Since you can overmeld for a wider range of stats). Gathering classes get you the items you need directly, usually making yourself/others pay a LOT less gil when having something made (Free if you can both gather said items AND craft what you need), with the only thing you have to pay is with your time spent gathering/gearing up.
